In the primaries, if you want to vote in any of the relevant local elections, you are forced to pull a Republican ballot. So, despite the fact that I wanted to vote for Obama, I pulled a Republican ballot so as to vote for the judges of my choice and the county board members of my choice.

Ron Paul, you're welcome.

And Dan Cronin, you're welcome...I gave you a delegate vote because I like you.

Interesting comment by the precinct judge that handed me my ticket to get my ballot. He's been a judge at this voting place since 1988. He said; "I've never seen so many Democrats in this precinct in any previous election."

For what it's worth.

After thinking about it, I guess my post is a little dumb. Being a moderate or liberal in DuPage is just like being a conservative in Cook. Each county disenfranchises voters in their primaries. Maybe its just the primary system in general that sucks.

Elections are bad for moderates. You can't campaign by saying, "I cooperated with my fellow legislators.", but we all know that's the only way anything gets done. I think most elected officials govern in the center, but campaign to the left or right.

I hear you Fan, I wanted to vote for County Board and judges but I really wanted to vote for Obama so I took the Democratic ballot. Maybe once everything becomes computerized, they will let us choose a party for each part of the election: I can choose the democratic presidential and congressional candidates but the republican county board and judge candidates....hopefully the people I want will end up on the ballot in the general election.
