I see Downers Grove and Darien school districts had referendums that were shot down.
Here is a link to a letter to the editor accusing the DG school board of distorting the facts to pass the referendum (sounds familiar). Anyway, the following is stated:
quote:
Despite above average performance, District 58 spends less per pupil than the state average. District 58's tax rate has dropped over the past 10 years but the school district has nevertheless been able to consistently improve performance and maintain high quality education. Out of 29 DuPage County Elementary School Districts, District 58's tax rate ranks 24th. If the referendum is successful, District 58 will still move up only 2 spots and District 58's tax rate will remain one of the lowest in DuPage County.
Anyone know where we rank? I did a search but found nothing...
Just a curious query: Has there ever been an election in February before? In these parts? Also, was the Chicago election [Da Mare, etc] a primary or the real election?
Yes, the run-offs. Call me an unobservant twit but has Chicago ever had run-offs before? Seems to me that the long-standing tradition has long been a spring primary and then a fall election. Of course, in Chicago elections, the Democratic primary winner is the de facto election winner. At least in my lifetime.
I can't ever recall any run-off elections 'round here.
Something just seems different about this February [odd-year] election. As if some rules have changed but out here in the boonies, I missed whatever changes have kicked in.
