Hi Floyd. . . . No sleep here. . .I'll get plenty when the good Lord calls me home!

Waaaaiiiiitt....there are REPUBLICANS in Glen Ellyn? How did you people talk me into moving here?! |

I read something the other day where the author wrote, "I don't so much think of people as Democrats or Republicans, but rather as optimists or pessimists."
I really like that. |

I can't tell anymore so I need some help in trying to figure but who were they attributing each quality to?

I took it to mean that the optimists occupy the middle-ground. The extremes of either party always seem a little too angry, and frankly, it would be a little scary if either party's far edges were in charge.

This is only March. If the Democrats don't have a clear front runner soon, I'd be willing to bet blood will be spilled by both sides next.
Bring on the flip-flops ------- Specifically, Wolfson was asked: "Can you explain how the senator would consider having Barack Obama as a running mate if she does not think he's qualified to be Commander-in-Chief? Wouldn't that be the first qualification for anyone that she would consider to be on the ticket? Since she and the president over the weekend -- she Friday, again and the president on Saturday did suggest that that was certainly in their thinking?" Wolfson answered, "Well what we have said is that Sen. Obama has not passed the Commander-in-Chief test. This is an issue that voters and reporters are asking Sen. Clinton about. It's not something that she would rule out at this point. But we do not believe as of this point Sen. Obama has passed that key Commander-in-Chief test. And there's a long way to go between now and Denver, as you know, and there's a lot left to be played out in the context of this primary. To a follow-up question, Wolfson added, "Sen. Clinton will not chose any candidate who has not at the time of the choosing, passed the national security threshold. Period. But we have a long way to go between now and Denver, and it's not something that she's prepared to rule out at this point. But certainly anyone who's chosen as vice presidential candidate needs to be prepared to be Commander in Chief.” NBC’s Domenico Montanaro adds, that Wolfson was then asked if there is something Obama could do between now and the August convention that would allow him to pass that Commander-In-Chief test. “No, we’re not saying-- it’s not something we’re not prepared to rule out at this time,” he concluded. |

Geraldine Ferraro...latest idiot that can't keep her yap shut.
Now...I don't buy that Barack should be running the country...nor Hillary...nor McCain for that matter (another lesser of two evils election). But why does this parade of idiots come out every four years to slide their size nines into their mouths? Maybe we should have a contest to see who is next. I say it is the ground-breaking and super-hilarious comic, Carrot Top. So cool. So funny. America just doesn't get it. |

Geri, Geri, Geri. That thin white man got elected in 1960. After causing a stir in 1956. You got on the ticket in 1984 in a gutsy move by Mondale, and then your husband mucked up your career. I suppose it wasn't luck that you got picked for Veep. Must have been your skill.
Let's see, losing VP candidates for $100: Geri, Edwards, Kemp, Dole, Mondale, Muskie, Shriver (after Sen. Eagleton), Lieberman. Which one is not like the rest? Ronald M. Kas |

"Placid of demeanor but pointed in his rhetoric, Jackson struck out repeatedly today against those who suggest his race has been an asset in the campaign. President Reagan suggested Tuesday that people don't ask Jackson tough questions because of his race. And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his "radical" views, "if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race."
Asked about this at a campaign stop in Buffalo, Jackson at first seemed ready to pounce fiercely on his critics. But then he stopped, took a breath, and said quietly, "Millions of Americans have a point of view different from" Ferraro's. Discussing the same point in Washington, Jackson said, "We campaigned across the South . . . without a single catcall or boo. It was not until we got North to New York that we began to hear this from Koch, President Reagan and then Mrs. Ferraro . . . . Some people are making hysteria while I'm making history." |

But did his wife stand next to him when he apologized?

I don't think she stood with him when he admitted in 2001 to fathering a child with another - much younger - woman. He didn't even admit it and apologize publicly, but went with the written statement, as I recall. |

I find it interesting that you placed this on the "Democrats" thread....
Nonetheless, I think he's absolutely right. My husband can tell you all about the problems he sees everyday and the sense of entitlement that so many people feel about medical tests and medications. I can tell you about the fact that kids today do not want to be doctors for a wide range of reasons and that the shortage of physicians will probably be the only thing that will fix part of the healthcare problem. Why? Because people will just die because they will not be able to see a doctor. When they die, they cost a lot less. Sad but true. "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith. " -Bertrand Russell V. Delong |

Dear Amy: no slight intended. Just back from Argentina. The economy is being run into the ground again due to Govt intervention and union demands, which control the country thanks to Juan and Evita Peron. Their legacy continues to live on. One Argentine told me that 35% of the people pay for the other 65% and the tax burden is getting unbearable. Too bad, what a rich country.
The social medical system is a shambles with poor/lack of service and lack of talent to boot. The people who can afford it go to private medical services. I tell my kids every day: don't rely on anyone but yourselves. Government pension and medical guarantees may not materialize and to be prepared for that day. |

This was posted nearly six months ago - Have any of you seen this on the front page? In that time the government decided to give "tax rebates" to people who didn't even pay taxes. We received four separate notices regarding the rebates, though no taxpayer in the house even qualifies for one. As for the health concerns - I was at the pediatrician's the other day and the doctor was actually shaking his head at the growing numbers of overweight children that come to the office. It won't just be Medicare with exploding costs. There is a story on the front page of today's Tribune concerning the consequences of children's poor diets. Overweight kids are even more likely to become overweight adults. Americans are suffering from a massive lack of discipline, and we will eventually have to pay for it. |

Those rebate notices cost the taxpayers $42 million: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23525100/ |
