Why do we have to go outside of Glen Ellyn Park District baseball to play travel baseball? Why doesn't Glen Ellyn baseball offer travel? Makes no sense.....
Aren't all of the travel programs privately run? Soccer, football, basketball, etc.?
House league baseball....all 1,500 kids....they just play against one another, don't they?
SEXY UPDATE: After opening my e-mail....seems another poster who shall remain nameless did 3 minutes of work and it turns out the program IS a PD program.
Glen Ellyn does not offer full-time travel baseball until age 13 where they offer one team called the Rangers. They do have two part-time teams that play for a month after the park district league.
They don't want to water down their park district program like what happened years ago when the Girls/Phillies started up and decimated their program.
Thank goodness for the Phillies program as they have provided terrific coaching and a competitive environment that the park district simple cannot provide.
The Phillies have created a competitive environment for only a small percentage of GE kids. Most of the kids on those teams live in wheaton, elmhurst, downers grove, etc... At least South is going to develop Glenbard South kids not York,DGN, or WWS. It about developing not winning trophys
There have been attempts to start full-time travel baseball at ages younger than 13U, but they were rigourously fought and rejected by GEYBA. So the advocates of full-time travel baseball were forced to go off on their own. Although GEYBA's goal was to keep their house league from being watered down, that is exactly what has happened since players have left to go to these independant teams. Next year there will be 3 independant teams at the 12U level and 2 teams at the 11U level, in addition to teams in neighboring towns. So GEYBA's beloved Mustang league is going to be very watered down.
