From the April edition of the Hadley Happenings courtesy of the PTA regarding wrestling.


Season Highlights:
At the State Tournament this past weekend at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Hadley
had its first two placers in the team's history. State Runner-up (2nd place) at 119 pounds, 8th
Grader Zak Hassan, was both Regional and Sectional Champion, a three-time tournament
champion and amassed a season-long record of 41 - 4 with 28 pins. Zak has been invited to
participate as an alternate on the Illinois Top Dawgs Wrestling Team that is attending the Middle
School National Dual Championships in Danville, Illinois the weekend of March 27 - 29. State
Third Place Winner, 8th Grader Bernie Gallegos at 215 pounds, was also a Regional and
Sectional Champion, a three-time tournament champion and had a season-long record of 37- 2
with 29 pins. The Team finished 14th out of 155 teams. Also making strong showings at State,
finishing in 8th place, were 7th Graders Devante Toney and Mac Thompson

That's either a typo or there is an 8th grader out there that weighs nearly as much as I do. Need to note the name and make certain my kid befriends him.

No typos, Clam!

The weight classes for IESA begin at 65 and go to 275! As the weight classes climb higher, there are larger gaps between the weight classes (at the lower weights, there is a different weight class every 5 pounds). So the young man who wrestled 215 actually weighed 195 but the weight class just below 215 is 185 so he had to wrestle up. Bernie is about 5'10" and quite strong.
