I know that some of you are very familiar with southwest Michigan- in particular the Saugatuck area. Maybe you can give me some advice. I've got some friends who live in Stevensville, MI. I'd like to give them a gift certificate to a nearby restaurant, as a Christmas gift. Since their taste is a little more 'sophisticated' than those of us who are thrilled with a new PotBelly's, I'm looking for recommendations.

I'm wondering about a place called Tabor Hill Winery, located in Buchanan, MI. Ever heard of it, or been there? Good choice? Bad choice? Any other ideas?

There are a couple of places that are pretty nice. Soe on Red Arrow Highway in Sawyer is very nice for SW MI satndards. Free standing building, nice room, nice menu. They don't have a website... but here is some location info. About 10 miles down Red Arrow Hwy.

I am not a big fan of St. Joseph...but it is close by. I have two friends with homes there and they like this place which is in town. Boulevard Bistro... Never been myself, but I believe the people that own Soe own this place. In downtown St. Joe in a big hotel.

My all-time favorite up there is the Red Arrow Roadhouse. About 15 miles from Stevensville on Red Arrow hwy. Not fancy...but a great, great restaurant.

I'm told Tabor Hill is no good. Take that for what it is worth...but 100% of those polled do not recommend it. Granted...only three people were polled. If they make so-so wine, I can only imagine they have crappy food.

If your friends have lived up there for any period of time, they probably know all of these places. If I'm in your shoes (assuming they would fit)...I'd probably try Soe. Nice place...upscale...unpretentious. I am certain they would like it.

LobsterGram??? Nope.....took your advice and went with Bistro Boulevard. Very nice folks to talk to, and they couldn't have been more helpful to an out-of-stater. Thanks for the tip.....

Again, Clamato's endorsement comes to fruition. Romney's campaign had their party at the Red Arrow Roadhouse...and he won.
