A $112 million upgrade and no mention of reviving the refreshment car. What about that Ron? Lubricating my pathway home with a one or two martinis always made for a much shorter ride. Crappy article, IMO.

I think it's a travesty. It made the delays easier to swallow.

Does this mean they will bring back the pedestrian crossing at the station?

It's the spending, Stupid!

Probably not unless the upgrade includes smarter commuters. As I recall, the pedestrian crossing was removed because all too many idiots were crossing right in front of incoming trains. Granted, some are still managing to do the same at either Park or Main. Also, is it really that hard to walk to either Park or Main if you're in the south train parking lot?

It was a nice access point for bicycle commuters. Also, unless they have moved the handicapped parking spots, those users on the south side receive little benefit to those spots.

Oh, I agree the pedestrian crossing to the station was very nice, and now that I finally have a train station parking lot permit, I would liked to have been able to use it. However, I can't blame either the Village or Metra for the stupidity of those who like to cross directly in front of incoming trains.

If I recall, all the pedestrian crossings in area stations were removed after one particular year that saw at least two commuters killed using them. It was an executive decision by Metra, wasn't it? Not a local decision by GE officials.

this was metra/up's decision. anytime they can get rid of mid station crossings they do...big safety issue. i think a woman was killed here in GE maybe 10 years ago crossing at the ped. crossing with headphones....happy birthday Darwin.
