Hi all, I’m going to Easter Europe in September for work. Due to limited fights from Kosice, Slovakia I have a 24 hour layover in Prague.

Has anyone been there before? Everything I read says Prague Castle is a must. I’m thinking if you’ve seen 100 castles, you’ve seen them all (spent 3 years in the UK). Is the Castle still a must or should I just do Old Town? Any other things I should see/do?

I have a good friend who was engaged on the Charles Bridge. Perhaps he will give you some insight.

Walk the Charles Bridge, spend time in old town. The walk up to the castle and the views over the city are really nice but the castle itself, not that incredible when you've seen so many (we are kind of the same, I hate to say...spoiled, I guess). When you walk the bridge, there are bronze relief sculptures and there is one, in particular, that you are supposed to touch for good luck. So, you should do that. If you have time, a little river cruise would be nice as well. The city center/ pedestrian area usually has some interesting public art on display. I wish I could remember exactly where it is but I can't. Make sure you order a hot dog from a stand...that or some schnitzel. Have fun. Prague is a really cool city.

Talk to your neighbors' mother...she has been there many times and has greast pictures to boot.

Perplexed,

If you're a castle veteran, maybe you skip Prague Castle. We had a guide who made it well worth the trip. There are also several churches on that side of the river that are being restored after all the communist neglect. The Soviet-style architecture of some of the apartment complexes outside of town is hideous.

If you feel like going off on your own, Old Town is a good bet. The Jewish Quarter...specifically the cemetary is must-see. Old Town Square and Wencelas Square always have some event happening. Also the Astronomical clock is there.

One other thing. Although the Pilsner Urquell and Budvar taste like Nectar of the Gods in the bars of Prague, it doesn't transfer to the states. Skunk city all the way here. So disappointing.

If you are interested in a guide, I've got a great one. You appreciate him when you see the groups of 30 straining to hear the person they are following.

Thanks everyone! This is a nice start. It's a rare opportunity that I get to see more than an airport hotel on layovers. This will be fun.
