I don't think Silver Beach is so bad, Clammy. I suppose since you like to the beach NUDE, it may be a little too un-private.
Grand Mere Inn ROCKS if you haven't been there. Make reservations and ask for a table by the window around sunset. It's phenomenal to see the sunset on the lake. I'm not much of a seafood person, but everyone I know raves about the Bass.
ps/ When did this turn into a golf thread, THREADJACKERS?? I'm apalled.
--And yes, this is still on topic. We are talking about our GEBB vacation.
So those of us that play to a 16 can't be invited or what? Best course I ever played is a tie between, Poipu Bay (Maui) and Spyglass in Pebble Beach area.
Has anyone been to Europe lately? Specifically, Paris or anywhere in France? My husband surprised me with a get-away for the two of us. We leave the day after Valentines day. Nice huh? Thing is, he booked airfare and rented a car -- but NO hotel. That part has now been put on my 'to do' list. We don't want to stay in a super-expensive place, but definitely want to be near some nice cafes and restaurants.
Thus far, Expedia has only been marginally helpful. They don't provide specific info about each neighborhood - at least not what I've read so far.
Think it is a good idea to stay in a chain hotel? (Marriott, Hyatt, etc)? I am more inclined to choose a cute little B&B but again, I am clueless as to neighborhoods.
And we are running out of time! Any ideas appreciated.
Priceline. You choose the level of hotel, area you want to stay, and name your price. We did this for our trip to London and it was great. Just remember the stars in Europe do not equal the stars in America. So, pick the highest level of hotel or maybe the second highest...otherwise, you will probably be disappointed in the quality.

Hotels all around the world are rated by people that actually stay in them...this is how I chose our hotel in Florence and Venice during a two-week vacation to Italy this past September.
Needless to say, we were not disappointed with the results. We stayed at at hotel in Venice that was rated #5 out of 300+ hotels with a view of the lagoon and it was very reasonably priced.
It definitely takes some of the 'guesswork' out of European (and even local) travel.
(For a very pleasant surprise check the map on the site that shows the location and then after looking at the pics of the room check the prices.) (sorry I didn't see your post earlier.)

This time of year-Lake Tahoe area is fun to play in. You get snow, but not so cold. Or San Antonio when it's not too hot. But for REAL travel-Brazil is the best. It's party season! Also the beach! River tours through the jungles... Visit small towns. More beach...tropical foods. Remember-it's summer down there!
Hey Nuts, where did you stay in Brazil? I have been to Joao Pessoa twice, once on business and another for pleasure and found it to be amazing and very reasonable too! Best Scuba diving ever in my book.
We were in Pituba, a suburb of Salvador in the state of Bahia. We were two blocks from the ocean! Sat under palm trees on the beach. We shopped in little street markets. A side trip inland to boat down the Amazon was amazing! It was (and I'm sure still is) a piece of heaven.
