We actually lived there for 2 years. Our neighborhood was very pleasant, friendly and helpful. We shopped, lived and dined like the locals, so it wasn't expensive. It was a long time ago. I've heard that there's a lot more crime now.

Anyone ever go to Morocco - Marrakech, specifically?

Hey Nuts...I was there about 2-years ago and there was no problem with crime...and like you said, it was extremely reasonable...the trick is to fly into San Paulo and hookup with a travel agent there and then book to go to Joao Pessoa from San Paulo and you save about 50% from booking from the States. What a fantastic place to live! After only spending 3-weeks there, I'm envious!

Leaving tomorrow for Paris. Can't wait! General concensus is that they don't Hate Americans so much anymore. Hope not.

Okay Phlebas You are WAAYY too serious pal. Our trip is all about being alone, no kids, good food, museums and enjoying "gay-Paree" (no pun intended). I am still impressed that my husband put it all together as he did.

Thing is, after the lousy reception we received when we traveled to Italy (with our kids) I was concerned. Back then, the U.S. had just invaded Iraq and no, we were not treated well by the average European we encountered.

Hopefully the Parisian's won't be so hostile. But then, we won't exactly wear tennis shoes and windbreakers. Nothing says "HI Ya'll I'm from the U.S.A." like a good ole' pair of white sneakers!

I always wear K-Swiss...they are white...and I am predominantly French.

I do not own a windbreaker.

The white pumps/sneakers are a dead giveaway, but there is more to blending in than that. You will still stand out and be identifiable as an American, which is no bad thing in my book. I like America and Americans, some of my closest friends are American.

I can spot an American and now a Brit in a crowd, not sure what to put it down to, must be my percipience.

If you walk around Paris and for that matter much of Europe in jeans and training shoes of any description you will stand out. Wear some decent, fashionable and trendy footwear. That said, if you are jogging, running, working out etc. pop the trainers on.

I always feel like an outsider in much of Europe and especially so in France, less so in Spain and less again so in Portugal (a wonderful country).

Be proud to look like an American, It's nothing to be ashamed of in my book. If it wasn't for Americans most of those countries wouldn't have the freedom they do.They sure don't care what we wear when we're saving their a$$$. Cool

No, it's fine. New battery - check. Engine light off due to replaced air valve - check.

Trading it in for one of those certified pre-owned Lexis sedans - to be checked off in the near future.
