My thoughts exactly. But with him missing, I felt compelled to be the anal one to make the correction.

My first trip up there was when I was about 6 weeks old.My grandfather had 2 summer homes up there and I went every year until I was about 12. His 2 brothers lived up there year round. His brother, Art had a chicken farm outside of Saugatuck. We spent many summers up there picking raspberries and blackberries and eating Bing cherries. I also had cousins that were born and raised there. I'm not sure if they're still in the area as I've lost touch.

We used to rent tandem bikes and get A&W frosty mugs down by the river. We could never ride them back to the cottage as it was uphill from there to almost the end of Allegan St.
We kept a boat docked at what was then the mayor's house and would take it from the river to the lake through the channel. I would always hide under the deck because it was always so choppy.

GER-
I don't know how long you've been going there, but I remember the building they called "The Pavilion". It was half movie theater and half dance hall with restaurants below dockside. We did just about everything available in Saugatuck. I remember going swimming at the "Oval". And when the Alewives were in season.......PU! We used to go to Lake Goshorn for a day trip of picnicing and swimming. We'd climb to the top of the big sand dune and race down to the water before our feet fried.

I haven't been there in years, but did take the MR. there when we were dating. My parents rented a house in Douglas. We could get fresh baked, warm bread every morning. YUM.

Saugatuck will always have a place in my heart.

Yeah.... and I got stuck riding to WI in the back of the pickup truck with the DOG. And when we got there where did my parents take me before we would head home? That's right folks.... THE DUMP.

I weep for my generation.

Are we done talking about homosexuality or is this part of the topic?

'Poor White Child' in Glen Ellyn, isn't that the same as 'poor sub-millionaire' in Hinsdale??

And by the way, you may not know it but this comment was extremely offensive to me.

Do you think we are out there ready to 'assault' three innocent Glen Ellyn children in the streets of Saugatuck? Are we going to 'recruit' them?

My partner and I have, over the years, done plenty of babysitting for not only my sister's three children, but also numerous straight friend's children and all are happy, normal teenagers and young adults now. In fact, maybe these kids that were exposed to our extremely everyday, normal existence will be that much better as adults and won't assume these idiotic stereotypes and the homophobic comments will become less and less.

BTW, we are also God Parents to three young children of friends and they have trusted us with the duty of caring for their childrent should they both die.

Good lord. Don't get so defensive.

Tony....you sound so much like your mother.

Not yet. I thought GER was going to harp on the point that the word "chosen" was used by HICTSTD in his reference to alternative lifestyles. I would venture to guess that very few gay or straight people "chose" that path. I think there is a real misconception (i.e. right wing bible thumpers) surrounding an individual and his "decision" to be gay or straight.

I find it most interesting that HICTSTD never used the words "gay" or "homosexual". Yet you all just directly jumped to the conclusion that she meant "gay" when she said "alternative lifestyle".

I too beleive no "chooses" to be gay or straight. However, each and every one of chooses our "lifestyle"... which to me is how we choose to publically live our life... how we behave and interact outside the walls of our private lives and home. "Lifestyle" can certainly mean many different things besides straight v. homosexual.

They need to evolve more so they can waddle faster. Or develop opposable thumbs so as to be able to drive golf carts. Survival of the fittest.
