Does anyone have recommendations on things to do in Indy? I will be travelling there for business and have never been......any suggestions?

You can go check out the new football stadium. I think they are almost done. What part of "no" don't you understand?

ronkas!!! shame on you! I few up near Indy. The time trials are probably going on soon for the Indy 500 so you can catch the practices during the week and time trials on the weekends. Broad Ripple is a really interesting, eclectic neighborhood with coffee shops and good restaurants. The Indianapolis Zoo is very nice as well. Are you going by yourself or with family? I might have some more ideas.

Nice downtown, try St. Elmo's "Everyone thinks their opinion matters. Don't argue with a nobody. A farmer doesn't bother telling a pig his breath smells like s***."

I few up there too. 5 too many jagger bombs. What part of "no" don't you understand?

Well crap! I guess that's what I get for typing fast. I should have added that ronkas should apologize for slamming Indy since my parents still live there and both plan to vote for Obama in the primary. Neither of them have EVER voted for a democratic presidential candidate in the primary. I still would like to hear more from IMJ about when he will be there and if he's taking the fam or going alone. I can probably come up with a bunch more suggestions. As per Fish's "few up" note, I also threw up in Indy - numerous times with the most memorable event occurring when I was about four....running down my parents dark green carpeted hallway hoping to make it to the bathroom. I didn't.

Jagger Jager...or is it Yeager? Either way, a jaggerbomb sounds less than tasty.

To be completely accurate, I suppose it needs to be "Jäger Bombs." W00T that! What part of "no" don't you understand?

I would not subject my family to a week in Indy. I am going strictly on business and I should have a couple of afternoons free. I will probably take in the Brickyard, that could be interesting. Thanks for all the recommendations.......

Yes, the track is fun. There are some really good restaurants too. I'll ask my parents - they've mentioned a few but I haven't been home in a while. There might be some minor league baseball going on too: Indianapolis Indians

OK I will grant you the time trials. But no more. Alright, maybe the race. But that's it! "A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices." William James

I just got back from a visit to Indianapolis today. (Grew up there, too, and my parents still live there.) The downtown is very nice - there's the new football stadium going up, the new minor league baseball field, Conseco Field House, the famous Circle, lots of nice restaurants (chains mainly but for the definitive Indy dining experience you must go to St. Elmo's. The shrimp cocktail sauce will blow your head off - very heavy on the horseradish but a must-have. The steaks can't be beat.) Also right there, along the new White River pedestrian area, is the Eiteljorg museum of western art - it's terrific. Also the new Indiana State museum, and the zoo are there, too. Broad Ripple is OK, but nothing you can't see up here, really. I think time trials are this weekend - I know the track just opened up for rookies this past weekend and veterans can start practicing on Thursday. But even if they aren't going on, just go to the track anyway. Practice will be going on and you can see the museum, too, which is nifty. There's a lot more going on there than when I was a young'in (we moved away about 18 years ago), but even so, it's not really a major metropolitan area. The best parts of Indiana are not in Indianapolis; they're in the smaller towns, pretty little state parks, covered bridges, the beauty of Brown County and Madison, etc. Still, gas was twenty cents a gallon less in Indy than it was up here today, so there's that!
