Looking for suggestions of places to go and see in San Diego and Los Angeles. IMJ Jr. wants to check out Legoland, I am partial to checking out Dodgers Stadium and Mrs. IMJ just wants to get away from work.....We would like to avoid Disney, but it might be hard to pass up...

We are staying at the Grand Hyatt in San Diego and the Hyatt in Hungtington Beach. If you know of any places in and around where we are staying your suggestions are welcome......

Don't miss going to Coronado Island and the Del Coronado Hotel, where Some Like it Hot was filmed. The island has some of the best dining and shopping in San Diego and the hotel is an historic masterpiece.

Also, don't miss Balboa Park. Home to 15 museums, San Diego Zoo, etc...

Best restaurant? Thee Bungalow Thee Bungalow

This restaurant is hands-down the best food, service and atmosphere.

Also, the swanky town of La Jolla, just north of San Diego, is a great place to go to the beach to watch the seals (La Jolla Cove). This town is also great for a meal or shopping.

San Diego is one of my favorite destinations (after Saugatuck, of course). L.A. is not one of my favorite destinations...if you are heading up there, I'd go to Santa Monica or Newport Beach for great atmosphere and food. If you go to Newport Beach, go to The Crab Cooker for some of the best seafood.

Have fun IMJ!

“In a letter to "Dear Abby" a reader complained that a gay couple was moving in across the street and wanted to know what he could do to improve the quality of the neighborhood.

Her suggestion - 'You could move.'”

5 years ago I had the pleasure of a couple of business trips to SD in Feb/Mar. I didn't have much personal time, but here is where I hung out. Not sure the name of the park, but it is near La jolla and just south of the Torrey Pines golf course (where they had the pga tour last week). I happened to be out there when the tournament was going on and hung out at the park watching the parasailers and hangliders launch themselves off the cliff over the ocean...it was awesome...

Your staying in my hometown! So in HB there is , most obviously, the beach. My parents loved to eat at Ruby's on the end of the pier. You get a chance to watch the surfers up close.
Food favorites ....on 5th street a hole in the wall family owned authentic mexican food place called Pete's. There's also a place called the Sugar Shack on Main St. On PCH in Sunset Beach or Dana Point is Harbor House .

Things to do....if you are not interested in Disneyland/California Adventure then try Knotts Berry Farm. There's Balboa Island's Fun Zone where you can take harbor cruises etc. It's fun to park on PCH in Laguna Beach and just go window shopping too. I've heard the Long Beach Aquarium is awesome...but it opened after I moved.

Down in San Diego our favorite places were the Wild Animal Park and Sea World. If you make it to the Wild Animal park make sure to go in the Lorikeet Landing and buy the nectar to feed them.

There are park hopper passes for a lot of places. So keep an eye out for a deal. Have a good time!

Thank you spacie for the suggestions....We only planned on 3 days in San Diego and 3 days in LA, but I am wondering if we are giving San Diego enough time to do all the things we want to do.....

I have talked the family into seeing the Cubs play the Dodgers, so that should be pretty cool.....Unfortunately Fan, I am not going to be able to sneak out and play some golf.
