Ok - for my air-traveling friends out there: I'm finally traveling by plane which is something I haven't done for quite a while and I'm looking at the restrictions and here my questions: Can I bring several containers 3oz or less in each carry on (1 a piece) that fit in a quart bag or just one 3oz liquid thingy?
What are safety matches? Is that what restaurants use to give out or what you got at weddings? Matchbooks I believe they were called.
Can I bring-cookies/crackers/trail mix? Do I have to put that into bags as well?
Makeup? Do I have to pull all that out? I wear power but I have mascara.
Solid deoderant - no big deal?
If I pull my digital camera out of my carry on should I just also take out of case or show the whole thing to them?
Oh and I'm going on an airline that charges for everything including water - maybe even coffee too. Bags are $15.00 which I believe most airlines are doing. But the beverages -wow $3 -5 for softdrinks and I believe 7 bucks for alcohol! Food was between 3-10 bucks for little to big box lunches. Otherwise, I'll eat my snacks or just buy something at a restaurant.

Wow Lupe you ask a lot of questions…

With regards to the carry on, you can bring as much as you can fit in the quart size bag. For the latest and ever changing carry on rules go to:

3-1-1 rule

I THINK safety matches are the stick kind in a box.

You can bring anything you want to eat. Your fellow passengers would appreciate that you refrain from brining anything that smells too strong. Personally I hate when people bring Chinese food. It does not have to be in a separate bag, but it can’t be liquid or gel like if you are bringing it through security. Just don’t look like a “bag lady” with your lunch Wink

With regards to the makeup see the link above.

Solid deodorant needs to be in your baggy (along with tooth paste, etc).

I never take my camera out, but technically it needs to be out of the case and in a bin.

I fly American and they don’t charge for the soft drinks. I don’t know about your airline, but American’s boxed lunches (not boxed snacks) are tasty and healthy. You can brink water or pop on the plane if you purchase it after security.

I hope you enjoy your flight. Air travel is not what it used to be, but if you go with the flow you will be fine. I think I covered everything; if you want any more advice, just email me!

BTW, how long is the flight?

Most of your questions will be answered here: TSA

I do not take this ziploc bag out of my carry on unless they ask for it. I usually keep it in one of the pouches on the outside of my carry on.

Not sure what you mean by 'I wear power'. See the link above.

No problems

I've never been asked to pull my camera out of my carry on.

Thanks so much for the info! Seems simple enough. I'm going to Nevada -via Las Vegas, almost a 4 hour flight-I think, then driving about 1 1/2 hours or so -basically into the desert.

I'll just watch other people. Take off my shoes -jacket, put in tray and wait and see if they need to see my peraonl effects. My make-up is the powder (sorry about last typo Wink type you dab on -mineral stuff that is all the rage right now. I'll keep the zip lock handy on the outside.

I was warned about the smelly food. ie - like Portillos or a Gyros. I was thinking about dried cranberies or trail mix or cheese-its. I might grab a few bottles of h2o or juice on the way to the terminal.

I'm on US Airways. So if anyone is using that airline in the future - bring some small change. I remember years ago when I last flew, the meal/food back then was starting to change - it was handed to you in a box as you boarded. Very delicious sandwich and all the trimings. So maybe I'll get another one of those - just pay for it.

That $15 for a bag is so much easier than the current rules. I find it is too much trouble to have to find a place in the overhead to store my carry on. Also watch jewelry and belts (think Brighton) that have a lot of metal on them. Current fashion accessories can set off the alarm. I have found food purchased on airplanes quite disgusting and usually buy something from the Corner Bakery stand.

For matches, I think you need the paper book of matches. They don't allow the easy-to-strike wooden matches (e.g. Ohio Blue Tips). Think of a biker movie where a tough guy strikes the match on his razor stubble or denim jacket.

I bring an empty water bottle with me, then fill it up after you go through security.

Ahh US Air... I'm not a fan.

At least it's a short flight! On short flights I just put on my MP3 player (after take off)and read a book or sleep.

If you are parking at O'Hare, let me know and I will pass on some more information.

I was going to park at Thrifty or someother off site place and then get their shuttle. My friend does this all the time and does quite well. It's like $11.00 or something like that a day. There was one place -$9.00 I think and for some extra $$ will detail your car. I picked the front row thinking there may be a tad more legroom - but maybe not. May I'll do a diffent seating when I check in soon. Would you believe they charge for seats too now! You have a chance to change when you check in but you have to pay for window/isle or exit on certain rows. WTF? Confused

Okay...

Parking - I park at the Park-N-Jet. They are the ones that wash your car. Valet parking is free and your car is warm when you get back. I get the car wash sometimes, they do a good job. The drivers are great guys. They have a website with coupons, but it's down today.

Park-N-Jet
4005 Mannheim Rd (Route 45)
Schiller Park, IL 60176

The problem with the front is you board last (good thing you are off first), but it's tough to find overhead space.

To find out if your seat is a good one or a bad one, go to:

Seat Guru

I heard that the airlines charge for isle/exit seats & luggage. Luckily they don't hit up the frequent flyers YET.

If you want to check out your hotel (I forgot for yesterdays trip and my hotel was not what I expected and it was a Hilton!) Go to:

Trip Advisor

Anything else?

Great tips! I saw online the Seat Guru, it rated our seats 4 b and C isle, so so. Great -I have a 6'4 guy. I have not checked in yet. Should I try to switch? Should I check-in through Travelocity or the airline?
The Park-n Jet - ? shuttles I assume? I believe we land back here around 5:45 on Tuesday - so should be shuttles right? Thank you for your help!!!

Hey I googled that Park n jet and I found a round about site, with a coupon. Seems like a pretty decent place. We're leaving the sports car at home -just in case!!! Is there enough parking spaces or should I reserve one?

Lupe,

I normally check in at the airport. You can use the automatic check in.

The shuttle will drop you off at the terminal. YOu will meet the shuttle at the transportation center across from the Hilton. I walk outside, but you can take the tunnel. Shuttle runs 24/7. Make sure you tip the drivers, they are all really great guys.

There are always pleanty of spaces.

Good luck and have a safe trip.

I'm back. I took your advice and used Park n Jet. Great people. I tipped the van drivers and I also gave a tip to the vallet who got our car ready. He was thrilled. I wasn't sure if you tip THAT guy too so I did. He freaked out. ?? oh well, maybe no one tips him. Heck it was a hella of a lot cheaper to park and tip then to do the whole cab or limo thing. US Airways was actually great. The difference I noticed -cheaper seats but everything is ala cart. One thing - I went through travelocity. Travelocity charged me in addition to my seats, fuel, tax, etc. So of course the seats were now more money. Then time to check-in, I have my confirmation in hand, seats (both ways) and flight number. Check! Proceed to web-check in. - seats - gone! both ways, mind you! I had to start over with seats. Happened to see two together -which was rare and I picked the exit row. Oh well, at least it was roomy, but hubby, I found out, would have liked a window Roll Eyes ho boy. While I'm at it I see coming back - my seats I confirmed weeks ago - again, gone! They assigned me 2 random -5 rows apart seats. I left it and figured I'd duke it out when I checked in coming back. Noted the new seats and took my original confirmation paper with me. I check in now about 22 hours before my flight - earlier than my first time, and again - completely diffrent seats, not ever the random 5 row-apart deal. Weird - what the heck was going on. In order for my to sit near my husband. I had to pay for my or our seats. What gives, has anyone experienced this? Can I try to get my 'extra-seat' fee back since I had seats 3 weeks ago, together? Other than that odd seat crap - the airline and flights were pretty decent!
