We got that call late last night too...my daughter assumed that the high school was closed too and was doing her happy dance until I reminded her that noone has any kind of all-district-encompassing power to close the schools. A quick call to West this morning was answered by a very tired sounding secretary who instead of saying "hello", simply muttered.."School is open today". I do know of several families with kids in both districts who didn't realize until about 9 a.m. that high school did not have the day off.
I guess I am astonished that that message went out the way it did. Hopefully a lot of complaints were received and they'll be a lot more specific if this happens again.
The message was terrible! What made me think GBW was the recording said 3 out of 4 schools do not have power. D41 has 5 schools!!! I checked and websites for both schools were down all night.
Honestly I thought someone had died or was in an accident in my family.
I appreciated the call and did not mind getting it at 10:30 pm, it is just that no one ever calls with good news at that time of night. (except when I was in college).
