I received a message from D41 that this morning police were called to Hadley after neighbors reported children with what appeared to be a gun outside the school.
The good news is that the gun was a toy and the kids were filming a movie on their day off from St. Pet's. The bad news is, what in the h*** were they thinking? This week there were four school - from junior high to NIU - shootings in our country. Unbelievable.
I think the response by the police was admirable...after all...WTF else do they have to do on a Friday morning? They seem to have gotten there in a timely manner which makes me feel good. I believe the school district did the right thing by notifying parents via e-mail...again, in a timely manner. I also think it's a little harsh to bring the wrath of God down on these harmless 10 or 11 year-old Catholic boys simply because they were playing the games that all of us played in our youth (all of us who were boys, anyway).
This was a case of bad timing if I read everything correctly. If it can be proven that these kids were mocking the spate of recent campus shootings, then I agree that they should have the backs of their smooth white thighs whacked with an Irish wooden stick...however you spell it...or whatever you Catholic folks do. I'm not Catholic so I don't know.

Did they have guns when you were a boy clam?
I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me.
A more important question regarding this incident is, what are the emergency and lock down procedures currently in place if this incident had involved any real weapons. If the space reports stated by the new consultant are accurate there are currently 1156 students in this building with a capacity of 1050. The school has had a little extra pressure ever since sixth graders were taken out of the grade schools and sent here. Too many students of this age confined to one building is a recipe for trouble.
I received the e-mail before the initial post on this thread. It arrived via the "District 41 E-News" that sends all of the other announcements and publicity items from D41.

"Information on incident outside Hadley
This email is to let you know about an incident that occurred outside Hadley this morning. Police were called by neighbors who observed what turned out to be two St. Petronille students making a movie using a toy gun for a prop (St. Pets had scheduled a non-attendance day today). Four squad cars arrived on the scene; police investigated and informed the students' parents. The gun was a toy and there was no ammunition of any kind. We thought it was important for you to know immediately that there was, and is, no danger involved."
