At Musical Mayhem tonight I heard a rumor that Hadley band students will have the opportunity to waive out of PE to have music lessons during PE time instead of music lessons during other classes.
Can this be true?
Isn't Hadley's PE staff award winning?
Aren't there many studies that show how important PE is for every student?
This doesn't make sense to me. Has any one else heard anything on this topic?

It better not be true. If it is, I'll be pounding on someone's door soon. Unless things have changed since I was in middle school, those band geeks need PE more than the rest student population.

BTW, first experience at Musical Mayhem. It was pretty cool. You could tell that most of the kids practiced their routines quite a bit. The performances were very good for the most part. Saw Mrs. Candidate there....I wonder where Candidate was????

I would welcome it. I am sure the teachers are tired of the revolving door of pullouts. The music section gets to school at 7:20 3 days a week and has sectionals twice with pullouts. Of course, those string instruments require no physical skill, do they?

Let's see, memorize pattern. Perfect movement. Practice repeatedly. Perform. Sounds like sports to me. Or is rollerblading that important? Dodgeball?

Currently my band student never misses gym for band lessons- I do not know if that is because they do not pull from gym at all or if it is because it is the same period as 8th grade lunch. Crews doesn't have lessons period 4,5,6- lunch times. Band lessons are not every day. My 6th grader has them once a week. I think that my band kid should be able to miss pe once in a while for lessons- just like she misses her core classes on a rotation for lessons.
