When I signed in this morning I saw Amy's name on the sign in sheet, but couldn't find her. All in all it was an interesting forum. I was most impressed with Senator Dan Cronin. He had some interesting examples of the incompetence of our current Governor. (as if there are not enough already)
One thing that was interesting was the fact the ELL (english as a second language) students had to take the same exam as native language speakers instead of some IMAGE? test. It sounds like this has an influence on a school districts No Child Left Behind Rating. We were required to submit questions on post cards, so I didn't get a chance to ask a follow up question to someone else's question. It was either Dr. Purdue or the Regional superintendent that mentioned they learned in November of last year that ELL students would have to take the same exam as native speakers, yet they said the big shock was to the teachers when they found this out in March as they were administrating the exams. Hello!? You mean administrators knew of this impactful change yet they didn't bother to inform the teachers? This really bothered me and makes me wonder what sort of communication administrators have with the educators.
Was Dr. Riebock there? I was curious why a D89 super was presenting at a D41 presentation.
It was amusing to see the 4 Roskam protesters as I left the building. One had a sign that said, "Roskam stole my 401k" Give me a break...
Sorry I missed you DTM. I don't know what you look like but there were several BB posters in attendance! I don't have the time or energy to post much now but I think the forum was officially sponsored by D41 but is always done in conjunction with D89 too. I could post more about the ELL situation but don't have time now....

I think the ELL teachers were caught off-guard by the change in requirement because the state made the decision late and when administrators were told, they shared the information but it's pretty difficult to re-vamp the focus of ELL curriculum while they are in the middle of it. I don't think it was the right decision for all ELL students. Definitely a number of schools saw AYP problems because of this policy change.
