My mistake - Post in haste, repent at leisure...

The quote was by ohma.

(Oddly enough, jombl, I find I have been agreeing with you a lot in the last few days...)

I think someone may have mentioned it earlier, but the big issue to D89 enrollment is the boundaries for the elementary schools. Arbor View's enrollment is the lowest (because there are only really two neighborhoods that attend it), and it's unfortunately the farthest away from any students in D41 that would be able to be bussed over.

On the other side of things (no pun intended), Park View takes students not only from the immediate area, but also from Lombard (near Finley Rd) and from the north side of Roosevelt near Baker Hill. So theoretically if we were to bus kids to Glen Crest from 41, there's already routes that go out near Spring Ave.

I am an "89-er" in support of consolidating the districts, however I see plenty of changed boundaries that will need to happen. Yes, it's a pain but look when D16 closed down one of their Elementary schools and restructured their remaining ones. Not only were all of the kids who went to Queen Bee sent somewhere else (okay it wasn't that many), but 4th and 5th grade students at two of the other elementaries were moved as well to the "Intermediate School"

This move in the Il Senate may expire later today, but it may be interesting reading to some of you just the same:

AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1719

regards the combining of school districts.

The local story behind Clayborne's move could be equally interesting. But you might have to look deep. One tactic the administration employed was to send school children to meetings to oppose the consolidation... go to bnd.com and search for Clayborne (results , here...) this story has been playing out all month...

Clayborne's measure stays alive another month:

quote:
Also Thursday, Senate President John J. Cullerton granted Clayborne's request and pushed back the deadline for expiration of the proposal to May 31. It had been set to expire in committee at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Clayborne's press release represents the Senate majority leader's first public statement on his amendment to Senate Bill 1719. The measure would force a referendum on a merger if at least 50 legal residents in each district signs a petition demanding such a vote, eliminating the need for school board approval. A majority of voters in both districts would then have to vote in favor of merger before it would become final.

I am all for combing and eliminating the duplicative administrative costs.

In the meantime, let me remind you that where you spend your money has an effect on who gets tax money.

For instance, I figured out that the $600 per month we spend on gasoline is a significant amount that can benefit the taxing distrcts here, as opposed to buying it in Indiana.

Furthermore, I live in D41, and the only gas station that is in D41 is BP Amoco on Roosevelt. SO all of my gasoline is bought there.

If you go to 89, the SHell on ROosevelt is your best option.

I don't believe that school districts receive a direct payment from sales tax collected within their borders.

They might receive money originally collected as sales tax as a part of "state aid" but it would be coming from general state revenue. Not directly collected within their realm.

True. Part of the sales taxes go to the municipal village government by way of the state — for streets, sewers, police etc. Property taxes go to (among other things) schools, parks and libraries.

Where you buy your gas has no impact on property taxes (and thus on school revenue).

And let's not forget that 1/4 of a cent for the DuPage Water Commission!

I believe the State of Illinois gets the biggest percentage of the sales tax collected. The rest goes to the county, the village and the water commission. Maybe a few more too. Not sure.

Nothing goes directly to the schools.
