We are often somewhat critical of this paper, but I wanted to make sure I gave credit when it was due. This week they address the issue of excessive school districts in DuPage and Glen Ellyn. I thought the article was pretty balanced and informative, instead of the pure pro-admin position they have been accused of in the past.

I agree, Dinsdale. It was a good article.

I agree, I loved the article (for a change). The only gripe I have is the repeated usage of the 600 students in portables and the overcrowding rhetoric. If you keep reading this often enough, it becomes fact to some people.

Yeah - it is kinda pathetic at this point. They keep talking about the district trying to regain credibility with the voters, but I don't hear any mention of dumping some of the recently hired staff and quitting with the "600 kids" mantra.

As far as I can tell, all they want is enough of an appearance of credibility to get the next ref passed. Hoepfully 50% of the voters aren't that gullible.

Yes a great article. I loved the reaction of the administrators "What save people money, be more efficient" . You want to talk about an alien concept. Of course could we expect people to make 200K a year and above to lower their income or put themselves out of a job. The first law of bureaucracy is protecting your job.

The 2nd rule is, if you have money left over in the budget, spend it, or you won't get it back next year. A complete lack of efficiency. Just ask my friend who works at the Illinois Tollway.

More kudos for publishing the Glenbard West honor roll in all of its glory! I didn't even know that they had an official honor roll as I have never seen it published in any other paper. I was assuming that the District doesn't want to harm the self-esteem of the kids not on it by making it too public.

Also a great article about the Park District's control of the school gyms in town. While the article only talks about D41, this has also been an issue at Glenbard West.

Everyone feels good at Hadley. It would take all the paper generated by the trees in Ackerman Woods to print their honor roll.

Hmmmmm . . . the West list is not alphabetical. Based on who I know to be the very top students in one of my kids' grades, it appears this listing may be by GPA. Subsets of students with the same GPA appear to then be listed alphabetically.

Perhaps I should purchase a copy since it does not get delivered to my house. Where can I get a copy?

Doesn't come to my house, either. From what I can tell, they deliver on Thursday mornings and only hit "main" streets. We do not live on "main" streets. The person whose driveway I get mine from never reads it...or at least that's how I justify stealing it when I can.

GEmom, I wish you hadn’t pointed that out. Now competitive parents all over Glen Ellyn will be pushing their kids to get a better GPA than the neighbor kid. Heck I even took a second look to see how my freshman compared. Now I have to forget what I saw and never mention it to my kid (I'm just happy she is on the honor roll).

Well I went to the bookstore and got myself a copy. I found my freshmans name about where I expected it. I am sure mine will like to see where she falls- and take extreme pride in the fact that she is there with the bare minimum of effort.

Now, come on, perplexed. The competitive parents have already talked to their kid's guidance counselor and had their own child's class rank. They will just be disappointed to see the names of previously assumed to be "average" children appearing in the vicinity of their own offspring.

It really is great that there are so many intelligent and/or hard-working students in town. But how could you expect otherwise - - what terrific genes they all have!! Smile

Also, Freshmen GPA are for only one semester's work. Really, not much to get worked up over. Though, way to go, honey! Wink

Okay I take it all back, except for the part about being happy she is on the honor roll. I will go back to work and let Perplexedette handle the child management. I'm fairly sure my DNA only contributed to her wonderful fashion sense, not her brains.

Well, I didn't get the paper this week. But, if this is true, they must have received the list in that order and if so, that's a MAJOR violation of confidentiality! Anyone finished reading their's and want to drop it by my house while you're out? OR let me know and I can pick it up. Sounds like interesting reading. I've been thinking I would actually subscribe since I have definitely seen some big improvement in the objectivity of the reporting....

Sorry, Amy - we have to post it on the wall. Clearly this is a very effective maneuver to boost news stand sales!!

Big Grin I dont' blame you. I'll hope to scrounge one up or I'll go buy one. Not sure my daughter made the list anyway...just want to read the article about spending in the school districts.
