Today's Herald reports that D41 officials are looking to add portable classrooms at Hadley next year -- strictly program related according to the Board President.

By the way, where are the current enrollment figures? I noted that they were listed as a hand out at the meeting, but nothing yet on the web. Do we have a shortage of help at the District building?

See Pages 15 and 16 of the PDF of the meeting packet at this link. This is all the information I've received as a Board Member. There was no discussion of the portables at the Board meeting. Per the memo I linked to, discussion is tentatively scheduled in December. At this stage, the Administration is just looking at the need.

The statement in the Herald article:
quote:
One mobile classroom definitely is needed for a literacy program....
is not reflected in the memo, so I don't know the source or if its totally accurate.

I wasn't privy to the entirety of statements made by Mrs. Howard or Mr. Kenwood to the reporter. I do know that, when I've been quoted in the past (not by these reporters), what makes it to the story doesn't always paint the full picture. I have no idea about this particular case.

In regards to enrollment numbers, Board Members were supplied with the latest numbers but Dr. Riebock explained them to be considered "draft" (and thus, not publicly distributed). There were minor changes. Nothing shockingly different than the most recently posted numbers.

So, 3564, including an estimated 80 pre-K, in buildings designed to house 3500 kids. I can live with that.

Not to be critical Dins...but I think the last projection on expansion was to take us out to 3,600. We are still well within those parameters and we are including 80 (and ever expanding) Pre-K.

Can an underutilized portable from one of the other schools be relocated to Hadley in the event of actual need? Will this vote precede the utilization study?

My kid was in a portable last year as a 6th grader...for a literacy class. Do they need another, or is this more disinformation from the Daily Herald?

My goodness Herbold, get a grip. Can't you see we are bursting at the seams? How can you even conceptualize the concept (cite JV) of "underutilization". You can always underutilize when you maximize the levy. Spend all of your allowance, children.

Please refer to a thread a while back, where I inquired whether we will need space for the new literacy program. If we split the classroom into groups for literacy programs, by definition, won't we need more space?

Life is so circular. We will always need space for the ever decreasing population. Soon, in our nanny society (full disclosure, I am Blue. It's a big tent) we will determine that those children whose parents make less than $100,000 per year are "at risk" and we will put them in state sponsored pre-school/daycare.

And the kids who win the national spelling bee will still be home schooled.
