Hi, Uh oh. I saw this in the Daily Herald. Looks like our neighbors next door are dealing with the consequences of continued over-spending. (Isn't this the same district that fought all the way to the Supreme Court for the right to keep their Superintendant's contract private? Can only imagine that legal bill.)
I wonder how much Costco was willing to pay for the Hubble site. That sale, plus the property tax back on the rolls, plus the sales tax infusion of a business that huge might help residents get past having a super-sized warehouse and parking lot at the entry point to their CBD.
I mean, it isn't as if they were proposing a Sam's Club.
wow. deja vu. sounds like d87 5 years ago. and THEN the 6 period year (05-06.) D87 administration didn't make any friends when they IGNORED the 240 signatures on the petition to keep world history honors. wait til their next referendum. good luck.
d200 is a k-12 district. interestingly...just went over to their website. FIRST THING on their list...the contract for the new superintendent. so...$195K salary. $7200 car. AT LEAST 12-15K TOTAL HEALTH COVERAGE, no employee contribution. Total: $217K. and they're in the hole for 6M? after yesterday's trib article...there will be a property tax payers revolt...someday....
Wait a minute. Do I understand you to say that the old Hubble property will be a Costco??? I hope that is not the case. That would be gross! I thought it was going to be a multi use project with up scale townhomes and shops.
why would a costco be any grosser than the target down the street? and it would bring food back to downtown wheaton, now that jewel is gone. granted, it's not the best entry way into a charming old town, but i think costco is a class act. anyway, gemom2 indicated this was in the past...

You know, that was my first reaction. But then I thought, heck, that is a busy intersection with ready access to main streets and the downtown. How nice that they seized the opportunity to pursue something that might actually increase revenues and spark further development and investment.
Heck, I wish GE had taken advantage of the opportunity with the Baker Hill/Maryknoll properties. Can you imagine if we had had the foresight to pursue anything along the lines of the Ikea etc developments just south of us on 355?
I wonder if we are going to see these same issues in Glen Ellyn. My understanding is that the state has not been paying out money to the schools plus the state plans to cut that support by another 15% next year.
At the 3/1 D41 BOE meeting, different state funding scenarios were discussed. You can find a write up here in the board highlights. You will also find links to the complete presentation as well as a summary.
The cliff notes version is, we are most likely okay for this year. Next year the state owes us $3.6 Million. If they cut that in half, the spend plan is reduced enough to absorb this. If however, they reduce this amount to zero, a conversation will be had with regards to either spending down reserves, or looking into additional cuts.
