Hi,
Let me be one of the first to compliment D41 for communicating this immediately. Would rather hear about it from them, than from my child. My heart goes out to anyone who may have known the individual who made the choice to end his own life. Very sad situation.

My child was on the bus. I commend Hadley and the bus driver for their quick response and handling of the situation. My daughter called me on her cell from the bus. As soon as the bus arrived at Hadley, the parents of every child who was on the bus were called immediately. Counselors met with the children for several hours. This was a very traumatic experience for every child on that bus. The suicide victim was the brother of one of the children on the bus, who recognized her brother immediately. I know my daughter will never forget what she witnessed today. However, I hope that the quick response of the staff at Hadley will lessen the impact of this horrifying experience. We have already taken our daughter to talk to our pastor. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's family.

Mardi, I hope your daughter will be all right, as well as all the kids on the buses, and my deepest sympathies to the family.

And,yes, sounds like the schools did everything they could in the situation, and should be commended.

My heart breaks for this family. When you experience this type of loss you truely hope that you will be the last one to deal with this sort of pain! If anyone knows this family please let me know privately as I would like to send them a letter. It will soon be a year since my husbands suicide and I would like to offer them some support. Please email me at mrsspeechlady@netscape.net Ted please leave this email address

You're a treasure and a saint, Mrs. Speechlady! I hope the family gets in touch with you, when they're ready.

Instead of wasting time farming out discussions about "keeping your pants on" to the middle schoolers, perhaps our District could be more proactive in the discussion of suicide.

My daughter's church group held a 2 hour seminar for 8th graders about suicide, its signs, and the importance of your own involvement last year. She was completely stunned - and talked to us about it. Unfortunately, we don't talk about something that causes all of us pain and helplessness.

I don't know exactly how to express the zillion feelings I have right now.

Mardie, thank you for your post. That is the story my child brought home from school. I had hoped it wasn't true. I hope the swift response from D41 helped every child on that bus.

MrsSpeechlady, you are a wonderful person to reach out when your pain is still so new.

My heart goes out to anyone who has ever lost someone they loved to suicide. MrsSpeech, you know I think you are a classy woman - I'm sure the family would appreciate your support and insight. I do not know the family but if I hear of anything certain, I will let you know.

Thoughts and prayer tonight for the family of this young man and for all the kids who are learning something very difficult in a very difficult way.

The first few weeks after my husbands death I got letters, phone calls and visits from people I did not know who all lost a loved one to suicide... when everything seemed so hopeless they showed me that survival was possible...and I knew I was not alone....I knew that if they were strong enough to get through it I could be too!

I didn't know this was even in the news. I share a close friend of this family and have met the mom and daughter on numerous occassions at church. Before anyone asks, I already sent mrsspeechlady a private e-mail about it.

I do know they were having a really rough go of things. I haven't had a chance to talk with the family yet and haven't seen our mutual friend in a few weeks, but as soon as I find something out I will let you all know.
