Is it just me or do the Glen Ellyn schools have a spring break starting a week later than usual this spring. I usually do something with other family members in the Chicago area from northern suburbs and Hinsdale and they all have spring break this year on the week starting March 24. Bummer Frown

Believe it or not, it's essentially the same week. DuPage schools always take Spring Break the same week: The one that straddles March and April (TWSS, a tribute to GEMom2).

Thank you - your day will come (TWSS)! Amy, I almost waved at you this morning, but realized you would have no idea who it was. You were coming out of your drive, but then I think you turned back in!?

Too funny! Yes, I moved one car to the other side of the driveway. I wouldn't know who you are necessarily....have we ever met?

We haven't met, but we should! I just checked Hadley's 06/07 directory and our freshmen were on the same team last year. Did you go along on any of the World Relief household set-ups?

No, I was working so I couldn't go. But we did donate a few things. I thought it was a good thing for them to do. We'll definitely have to meet.

The issue is not really that it is the week that straddles March and April, it is that it is not the same week as a great number of other districts in the Chicago area (those in Kane, Cook, Lake, Will, and McHenry counties). Even in DuPage County, the high schools in Hinsdale along with Addison Trail, Willowbrook, Fenton, and Lake Park all have spring break from March 24-28 (not March 31 - April 4). I know some teachers in Hinsdale and they do not have the same week off as their children in Glen Ellyn schools.

Also, in terms of the number of weeks of school after returning from Winter break, it is a week later in 2008 than in 2007.

2007 - 11 weeks
---------------
January 8th, 2007 - Return from Winter break
March 26th, 2007 - Start Spring break

2008 - 12 weeks
---------------
January 7th, 2008 - Return from Winter break
February 29th, 2008 - Leap day
March 31st, 2008 - Start Spring break

This is a good thing if you aren't going out of town: less crowds when you are out and about with your kids at museums, the zoo etc. Smile

My only point was that the week that straddles the two months is the week most schools usually take. Every few years or so, there seems to be this situation where some of the schools pick different weeks....it's just life.

Advantage Buggy. If this were a tennis match, I'd be in big trouble right now because I have no clues about you to figure out who your daughter is. Maybe your daughter can talk to mine on Monday so I know who you are without you having to divulge anything here. I know a few other ladies on here too...
