We are seeking to save the District some money. Recently, the 5 hour retreat on June 20 cost the district $2,000 for a current superintendent from another district to be a discussion leader. Glen Ellyn is full of meeting planners, but none of them were asked to volunteer their expertise. The District hired someone.

Currently on the Board are professionals in insurance, engineering, real estate development, law, mediation, marketing, and science. Couple that with a superintendent who facilitated numerous public discussions about the value of a super-sized Hadley, and you have a powerful group looking for an outlet for their ideas. Obviously, they need someone to help start a conversation. A moderator, if you will.

Oh, by the way. The recipient of this $2,000 payment in June is a search firm. Not a meeting planner. Not just any search firm. You can probably guess that this firm and the District have done business before. A very familiar person in District 41 was "found" by them and hired by the District.

Maybe they will give it back when the payment becomes public. Could happen. It did before.

$400 an hour to facilitate a meeting? Nice.

The agenda from the workshop lists the facilitator as Hank Gmitro. He is the superintendent of Carol Stream District 93. The same district that passed a 93 cent referendum to be phased in. The same district that not too long ago abandoned their grade level center for a junior high and put their 5th graders in the elementary schools. Just like our previous superintendent, he too has found time in his schedule to be an "associate" with a search firm.

Doesn't the decision to hire a consultant make so much sense.
