This just in... Dr Riebock has decided to not replace the AP at Ben Franklin and instead, Lincoln and BF will share an Assistant Principal. Just to keep things even, The AP from Churchill will move to CSO and Churchill and FG will SHARE The Assistant Principal. Am I just crazy or does this make any sense ? I fear the impact that this will make on the education of our children. Of course this will have an impact on all but will have a huge impact on the Special Education Dept. Does anyone have info about this ?
honestly I don't really understand why any of the elementary buildings need an assistant principal. I work in a Glenbard feeder district with very similar sized schools and none of our elementary schools have had an assistant principal for at least the 17 years I have been there.

Ackerman, I am totally on board with what you are saying. I think we could take a CLOSE look at the positions at the CSO and look for ways to double up work for some and cut a couple of positions there. Perhaps a pay cut for some. Don't we have one of the highest paid Superintendents in the state. Is that necessary. Why should the children and the principals absorb the impact ? Mrsspeechlady, How does your feeder school rank in the state ? I have done some research and the schools that are recognized for their high academics DO HAVE Assistant Principals. I am not suggesting that teachers be cut. I think we are sitting a a large surplus of money and isn't that for times like this ? The economy will turn around . But in the meantime, the impact upon our kids education won't. Who handles the IEPs, the behavior problems that the the AP has a revolving door for, who oversees the school while the Principal is at meetings ? By eliminating the AP, won't we ultimately be putting additional responsibilities upon the teachers who are already overtaxed with responsibility ? Ackerman, sign me up for the revolution . By the way, my feelings are not just for the Special Needs. I think this will have a trickle down effect upon the entire student body. I am aware of what is happening across the state. The state that ranks 49 in tax funding for education. The district that has overpaid administrators.
Do you really think anyone at the CSO would take a pay cut? The Superintendant? HA! I for one would love to be there when/if THAT idea were presented to the board as something to consider. Which is not to say that I disagree with you suzie. But please consider that we still have a full-time highly paid PR person who is the spokesperson for D41. If I am not mistaken, she is the one who sends out all the updates for our Superintendant. Matter of fact, I think she was quoted in the newspaper a few weeks ago. That is what reminded me that she was still around - and making almost $100,000 to boot. Nice huh? If we haven't gotten rid of that position yet, I can't imagine there is anyone at the CSO who would be considered for a pay cut any time soon. I also agree with you that we have overpaid administrators. I heard we have some people making over $100,000 a year at the CSO, and I am not talking about the Superintendant or the Chief financial person.
Did you ever look at something and then really wish you'd never seen it? Like watching an awful youtube video and then you can't get it out of your mind. That is exactly how I feel after clicking on that link.
Wait a minute. Didn't I just get something in backpack mail or email that said they were cutting some administrative positions to save over a million dollars off the budget? Which positions are cut, and when? In all likelihood, I probably just dreamed that part. The part about some administrative positions being cut.
Unnecessary, repetitive and redundant quote removed. --Ted E.
The salary to be determined will be discussed in the board's executive session. Unfortunatly we are not privy to executive sessions. The only alternative is to attend board meetings and ask for a copy of the packet. FOIA request is (unfortunately) after the fact.

IMO the assistant principal is the busiest person in the school. These administrators are on duty early morning to late afternoon. To me it makes more sense, and a $$$ saving one at that, to remove ALL director positions as that is where the major $$$$$$ of salaries are. They would not really be missed as they are ALL new positions from the last successful referendum.

Um, as I recall, with the exception of Hadley, all of the Assistant Principal positions were created as part of that referendum. As busy as the APs appear to be, how were the tasks they currently perform (monitoring the busses, lunchroom and scheduling special ed meetings) getting done?
I think consolidating the AP positions is one of the best ideas I've heard come out of D41 in a long time...
Do we really think that all of those CSO positions are necessary ? I did not know that we had or needed a PR person. That must be a tough job, LOL. I know that expecting a pay reduction at CSO is a joke, but how about job elimination. Helen, I am with you. I believe that the APs are the busiest people at the school as well. I do not know why they were created but i would guess out of need. And that is exactly what they are. Do you really think that the AP from Lincoln or FG give a hoot about Churchill or BF ? Do they truly have the time to learn all the needs of a new school with all the other responsibilities that they have ? HOW could an AP located at one school have any idea what is going on at his/her other school ? I am aware that the AP from Churchill is moving to CSO and actually only one job is being reduced and i agree that the move to CSO will probably be a raise, so what are we really saving at the risk of EDUCATION ? GE Fan, I think I went into the wrong line of work. D87 , I wish dreams came true !

Continuing your line of questioning, what exactly is a Director of Directions? Teresa Lawrence at $90K [Page 2 of Report 1]
Is that like the Minister of Funny Walks?
And 16 Assistant Principals? For four high schools? Four apiece?
Glenbard D87 is still comprised of four high schools only, right? I did see the "k12" in the web address of those reports, so is that just any school district?
Directions is the alternative schooling place. Located up on Swift Road. Not certain how to describe the kids that go there, but they are typically troubled and not on the honor roll.

Ok, let’s just say that we can lose an Assistant Principal and nothing effecting the classrooms will change (I don’t agree with this, but for the sake of this topic, I’ll leave that alone for now).
Do we all believe that the planned reduction of the two Math Specialists, the reduction of three Elementary Teachers and the reduction of two Special Education teachers will also have no negative effects? Who is going to be picking up those services and how?
Isn’t this why we want to have a budget surplus, to ride out moments like this?
Our enrollment continues to climb – up more than 70 students from this time two years ago. I just do not believe that we should be removing bodies from the classroom.
Are we that happy with test scores that this is what we want as a community?
Just spoke with an acquaintance I hadn't seen in a while. I believe he (and his wife) are around my age - 50-ish. He was very happy to tell me they had both retired. He had been an AV person (or whatever they call them these days), and she a counselor (only 1 in our local schools). Last time I looked, each was earning (well) over $100k.
Really pissed me off to know these 2 young(ish) people are able to retire, at 75% of their salaries, with free health care forever. I realize that that is what the negotiated contracts provide, but it is frigging insane! Can't imagine how even the recipients can think it is a sustainable system. And I know - if I think it is so good, why didn't I go into the field...
