The agenda and packet for the meeting on June 11 are posted on the district web-site.

It does not appear that any discussion of the facilities "crisis" will be held. It will be almost 2 months since the district was handed a major defeat at the polls and there has been virtually no discussion. There are no meetings scheduled for July. When will there be discussion? A proposed major building initiative projected to cost $40 Million can hardly be swept under the rug, can it?

Also, on the district web-site is the year-end enrollment report. The district finished the year with 3,583 children. Equalizing the enrollment to spring of 2005 when we did not house the Pre-K program (which has grown to 72) our enrollment for K-8 was 3,511 or down by 55 kids.

The meeting on Monday is at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room at 793 Main Street.

Bob,

Just curious, how many emails a week do you get from fellow board members? Or do you only see each other ever other week?

At this point I'd say I've averaged about 0.5 emails per week from fellow Board Members. While the Open Meetings act allows for conversations between 2 Board members, the idea is to discuss things Board-wide at public meetings.

We do get updates from the Superintendent on at least a weekly basis about District business.

Hi Ohma:

I cannot attend the D41 board meeting this evening because of baseball. However, after having attended the 3 previous meetings, I don't think I will miss much in terms of discussing issues or solutions being addressed by the D41 board since this seems to be done behind closed doors so that the public cannot participate. Please let me know if any workshop or other key dates are announced tonight. Thanks.

Nothing that wasn't on the agenda linked by Ohma, above. We voted unanimously to approve the automated substitute teacher service, which provides significant advantages (and some cost savings) over the human-based system we have used in the past.

We had a presentation of the 2007-8 budget. The vote to make it tentative is projected for the June 25 meeting.

Our next public meeting is a Board Retreat scheduled for 3:30 to 8:30PM on June 20. I encourage all those interested to attend, as best you can with the times such as they are (popping in and out is more than OK - don't feel that if you can't make it at 3:30 you shouldn't come at all). We'll be discussing a variety of topics; the agenda is not yet posted.

Sorry, I forgot to mention committee assignments. These are from memory, so I may have forgotten something.

Finance and Facilities - Cosgrove and Vondrak
Policy - Nelson and Solak
PEP - Vondrak
Continuous Improvement - Howard
Learning Leadership Team - Kenwood
IL Assoc. of School Boards - Solak

We also were assigned PTA Liasons (5 schools, PTA Council, and SERC) by quarter for the 2007-8 school year. Don't have the list in front of me but I personally am assigned to Lincoln, then SERC, then Franklin.

The Board President handles all these appointments.

As should be clear from my posts above, I may miss something so please check the minutes once approved and posted to the District website.
