My brother works for the Evil Empire known as Comcast. I keep telling to go to another company and he keeps telling me, "You don't know the power of the darkside, I must obey my master".
I don't really understand how the cable industry came into being with exclusive franchises, etc., but my experiences with Comcast have taught me that consumers are not well served by the status quo!
i sent a ticked off email to comcast and someone from some executive office actually called me the next day!! have to return the call...i've had comcast internet for 2 weeks and have had breakdowns almost every other day. if this goes on i'm switching to wowway to bundle it all...this is ridiulous! sbc NEVER went out!
Interesting - my brother also works for the evil empire (he runs one of their larger metropolitan markets). Locally, my mother, brother-in-law (a frequent GEBB poster) and I all subscribe to WOW.
I've had their internet service for many years now and we've had only two multiple day outages in all that time. I've found the customer service (phone and on premise) has been first rate when we have had problems.
Ughh. The only sites that will load on my computer right now are this and CNN news. I can't open Google, I can't get to my mail, I can't even open an IM.
It's been like this for two days, and it's ridiculous.

When I first had WOW, for about the first year, we would encounter loss of service issues. Eventually, WOW suggested we run a direct cable from the cable service box to my modem. According the readings on the test site, the signal strength wasn't much better, but we haven't had an issue since.
Sooooooooo, do you have a lot of splitters for TVs, etc. between your service drop and the modem? That may be the issue.

Back at that time, the way for municipalities to entice cable operators to make the investment in "passing homes" with their cable was to set up the "limited" monopoly system. The same thing was true for telephone service and wireless service. It wasn't cheap to set up the infrastructure. Unfortunately, while that meant the business case looked good -- it meant that consumers like us had no choice and therefore there was little incentive to provide good service.

"After Free Press on Tuesday accused Comcast of using unfair tactics, Comcast spokeswoman Sena Fitzmaurice confirmed to The Associated Press that the company hired people to fill seats after the hearing room doors opened at 7 a.m. and before the 11 a.m. start. As Comcast employees arrived, they replaced the hired seat-warmers. Fitzmaurice declined to say who or how many were hired, how the company found them, or how much they were paid."
i have a call into comcast's oakbrook office. if they can't get someone here this afternoon or tomorrow morning i'm done. the customer service rep i first called (in Mexico, i now ask...) told me no one could be here til 4 tomorrow ...yuk
Here's the latest problem(s): I cancelled the premiums channels and returned the box. Now I have several problems on my HD tv only. I have duplicate channels like channel 7-1, 7-2, etc. That's not a problem just weird. My USA channel has no sound while my cartoon and TNT channels are in spanish during the days only. Anyone else experiencing anything like this?
Actually (in most cases) those are not duplicate channels, but sub-channels that the stations use to broadcast news weather and sometimes programming. WGN even has it's own music channel. Welcome to the digital age.
BTW-I've had DISH network for over 10 years and love it. Only issues I've had are when a storm or heavy snow comes, then the signal drops out.
Yoss, thanks for the information. Comcast could not tell me that much because it does not show up on the tv guide.
They couldn't help me with the sound problem because no one has reported it. Yet when I looked at their message boards, others had the same problem. They wanted to send someone out to look at it at a cost. I said no thanks.
So I pulled out my tv booklet. Turns out that for some reason the audio on those two stations were set different. I thought once I set the audio it was for all the channels. Now I have sound.
Have to wait until Monday to see in Sponge Bob is still in Spanish in the am and English in the pm. I double checked the language and it was set on English.
As much as it was not Comcast's problems, they are still horrible.
