here's my take on the trade: i feel we have a very solid offense now. thinking about batters 1-9, i like what's on paper. on the other hand, i'm nervous about our pitching. (it's important that i mention here that, other than one magic season, there was rarely an outing when i was NOT nervous w/ garland on the mound)
lastly, i don't mind so much kenny's mindset of trading prospects for winning seasons now vs. saving them for the future. the sox had followed the latter MO for the last few decades, building farm systems that received accolades from Baseball Weekly, et all. unfortunately that never got us anywhere. so i like the philosophy of trading for wins now, i'm just not 100% sold on this current trade. i will say this, the more i hear about swisher as a player and positive clubhouse presence, the more i like the sound of the trade.

Whenever you think about building through your farm system think about.....SCOTT RUFFCORN. Our Savior.

The only thing is that watching the Tigers and Indians get better has not helped the prospects. I agree, the pitching is suspect at best. If any one of the 5 starters goes down, what is there to go get in the farm system to help recover.
The bullpen also needed help, and Kenny brought in Linebrink. Kind of reminds me of when he thought McDougal was going to be the guy when he brought him in from KC.....
