I have WOW and it was out starting at 7:15 this morning.
I've inquired about U-Verse but was told that we are too far from a pole and service wasn't available. We switched to WOW from Comcast which was a big step forward from a customer service perspective. Only other option is satellite, which would involve a phone line and a switch back to DSL.......guess we're stuck with the lesser of two evils.
Lately I've been having a U-verse problem at one of my remote boxes. It shows few or none of my recorded programs, and it often fails to play recorded shows.
Wife called tech support and got some "static electricity buildup" story and a fix which seemed to work, but it keeps happening. Maybe it's true because it did coincide with the colder weather. But I do have a furnace humidifier and I would like to think that the engineers would've been able to design against that. And why would it affect one box and not the others?
Anyway, I'm off topic but IMJ mentioned Uverse and I wanted to offer a bit of a complaint.

I finally got someone at WOW who said it will be an extended outage. I guess a truck hit a major box.
Ironically while waiting for WOW to answer, the salesman for this area showed up to discuss upgrading my service. I suggested he work a different neighborhood today.

MI87: It's probably an issue with the box, rather than the service. Though it COULD be a combination of wiring to that specific outlet and the weather issues. Have you tried connecting it directly to the tv (sans box) in bad weather to guage any potential issues?
Perplexed: That was awfully nice of you to suggest that to the salesman, lol.

I was out this AM, but rebooted the modem and it came back. Then this afternoon I got an automated call saying that they were anticipating an outage and that i should call 866-4wownow. They knew nothing of any maintenance work. Curious.
SM2: Uverse is all digital so you can't detach the box. Based upon the symptoms, it has to be a box problem. I don't know, though, whether it's just a bad design (i.e. can't cope with normal static electricity buildup), or the box itself has gone bad. The fixes tech support gave us do work, I just don't think we should have to do them any time we want to watch a recorded show.

MI: You shouldn't have to do any additional "maintenance" work simply to use your DVR. Hmmm....I wish I could send you a signal reading device to check it. From what you've described, it's either a signal issue with that particular outlet or an issue with the box, though.
Either way, it's Uverse's problem and AT&T should replace the box or add an amp near that outlet....also, checking for leakage might prove useful as well.

Middle, not sure where the streetside box that services your 'hood is, but the one at the intersection of Prospect and Turner is covered in plastic bags and duct tape. Perhaps these outside boxes are having some 'issues'.
