For me it's not so much 8 hours straight on the net, it's more like eight hours straight at my fully wired desk one easy click away from the instant gratification of seeing what's going on.

I mean it's not like I'm checking in at night before bed.

(Oh, is that time stamp right? Smile )

Only eight hours? That's lightweight stuff. We have dial-up, and that's connected 17 hours straight per day. Sometimes longer.

Eight. Ha! Roll Eyes

Ironically, I only use it when I am at work--it is rare that I even turn on my PC at home.

There have been times when I would go crazy if i couldn't check my email or surf online. Just like jombl, I sit infront of a computer from as early as 6 AM until atleast 5 PM for work. We have never had a predetermined break period, but basically you can't just sit there for all that time and not relax and get your mind off your work.

I have to admit that I have been known to spend an entire 8 hour day doing research for work online. Let me tell you it is amazing the variation of extremes that Chicagoland municipalities put information online.

Am I addicted? Maybe

Teddy, agree with you on the outlet that the Internet provides.

However, I'm surprised that you all took this so well. When I read the article I started counting my posts over the last four months and started to feel quite terrible. Now I feel better. Thanks!

I admit that I am one of those who peruse the sight many times a day. I rarely log in except to reply and that's not often. Does that make me a closet addict? I will also admit that for awhile it was just to see what Clam writes. Now I have to admit this BB has picked up and there's several of you that I just wait to read. Maybe I just need to find something to do.

Don't fret, M...I used to log in all the time in order to read my posts. They were fresh, wry...insightful. Those were the days.

Apparently, we aren't the only ones with computer-related addiction problems. Here's the beginning of an article in the Trib. today:

Keo, a 47-year-old male chimpanzee at Lincoln Park Zoo, paced the floor of his non-public living quarters one recent afternoon, clearly annoyed with his keepers.

In his rolling gait, he would stride up to a glass wall, stop and glare at the humans on the other side. He was supposed to have been at work on his computer at 1:30 p.m., but now it was 1:40 p.m. and the door to a small adjoining room with the computer was locked so he couldn't enter.

Behind the glass, Steve Ross, the zoo's supervisor of behavioral and cognitive research, was a little annoyed too. He was waiting for two visitors, 15 minutes late, who were coming to see how he has been training Keo and other apes this year to use a touch-screen computer in order to measure their cognitive abilities...

The rest of the article is on the Trib. website.

I think chimpazees live too long.

We just bought our youngest a panda hamster. He'd been begging us forever to get one. If that lived to be 47 years-old...I'd have told him to pee up a rope. Perfectly nice hamster...no biting, etc., I just hope that it doesn't live past the age of 3.

Have the day off today. Walked past Firkins and was going to stop in and say hello. But I hesitated because I was EMBARRASSED. I expect that guy to say "Hey lady, get a life!" Should I remain incognito or walk up and admit yes, I am on the board all the firkin time. (and it seemed to begin when EP made his first post about the new pub.) Weird.

I have a history of mob involvement in my family. Arraingements can be made, if you know what I mean.

As a note, you FBI agents monitoring this forum can reach me via the normal phone number.

When I was a kid, we babysat the neighbor's hamsters for a week while they were on vacation. One of the hamsters had babies during that time and next thing you know the babies were gone. Cannibalistic *******s. It's a very traumatic childhood memory.

They do eat their young. Apparently, from what I've read, this particular kind is more interested in being held than any other. Hasn't attacked anyone yet.

Being a male, I am hopeful that my child doesn't see that type of thing. It is a rodent, after all.

I really hate to say it because I wanted nothing to do with it...the thing is kind of cute.
