Is anyone else having problems with their Comcast internet service. In the last few days, it's been going out constantly. When this happened in the past, it always came on after unplugging the modem for a few seconds and then re-plugging it in. Now it's going on and off every minute or so. It's maddening. It seems like Comcast is doing its best to drive this consumer to Wide Open West. Is anyone else out there having problems with Comcast? Does anyone have experience with Wide Open West? All I'm looking for is reliable service...is that too much to ask for?

I have SBC DSL and find myself under the desk once or twice a week when Safari locks up. Still...sounds better than what you're going through.

I have WOW and have the exact same issues that you describe. At first I chalked it up to not having the better coax cable between my modem and the outside box. But I doubt that now. I'll go months without incident, and then all of a sudden it's happening every day. A week or two later and it's OK again.

As bad as SBC is, my DSL has been pretty darn reliable after 3 defective pieces of hardware. They finally came through with a good router and I have been happy ever since.

I've had WOW for some time and cannot remember the last time I have had any problem whatsoever.

We've had WOW about 2 years. Had some teething problems (like you described) the first 6 months, but it's been pretty good since then.

I'm new to Glen Ellyn, having moved from Wheaton in November. We had SBC/DSL and were quite happy with it, but now, where we live by COD (less than a mile from our Wheaton residence), SBC/DSL doesn't reach.

Now, I'm looking for an economical but fast connection, sans cable TV. I'm suffering through dial-up now.

It seems my options are WOW and Comcast.

Ideas?

Welcome to the south end of GE Priamel. I was in the same boat you were in, but we finally got SBC to put a booster on the line that has helped quite a bit. They sold it to us, but then when the technician came out, he said we were too far away from the station. When I asked for my money back, they tried everything to keep my 20 bucks a month coming in.......

Finally, the booster on the line helped. My neighbors have WOW and have no problems.

Thanks for the welcome, IMJ. While I can't just yet claim a southern (GE) accent, I can say it has been a lovely time here. With COD so close (across the street), it has become my personal library and movie rental place, and with Caribou and Borders so close, I'm content.

Wheaton had advantages, like its Rec Center, but GE seems to be more or less the same. It isn't as if I had to change grocery stores or anything. I've been within three miles of where I am now since 1993, having moved here for grad work at Wheaton College.

I'm in a condo, and others have warned me that this may complicate my internet options. Why SBC has ignored this area, I don't know. We have hundreds of units in our complex, plus a huge apt complex at Lambert/22nd. Must be some technical or legal reason, as with this density, I'd think it would be lucrative to get DSL/SBC here.

I'll do some price comparisons. We don't watch enough TV to justify cable, but Comcast's internet-only deal isn't so hot.
