Re-Scan After the 6/12 DTV Changeover!

For those watching over-the air TV with an antenna on either a new DTV set or thru a converter... Don’t forget... you’ll have to re-scan the stations after the changeover at noon tomorrow (Friday, June 12). If you don’t re-scan some of the stations will seem to vanish... Channels 2 and 9 are actually changing their frequencies while a few others are moving their antennas and/or changing their transmitter power. If you’re the proud owner of a new big screen TV you might want to read Losing Yourself in HDTV Is a Few Tweaks Away from the New York Times. The out-of-the-box factory settings for brightness, contrast, color etc. are probably not as good as they could be. For real geeky info on the Chicago area DTV/HDTV stations see AVSForum.com. Fun stuff for those of us who enjoy playing with the technology more than actually watching it. —Ted E.

Just peeked at the over-the-air channel lineup at Zap2it. Whole lot of newer stations listed there than just last week. Many might not even come in at all or make sense to watch, so besides doing the re-scan, know also how to edit out those odd stations you'll never watch or you'll be holding down that up/down key for a while.
