Hi everyone, I know this is a repeat from someone’s post last year… Things change quick in IT stuff, so I need a fresh opinion.

Much to the dismay of MRS. Perplexed, I am moving my office into the house.

Since I only have one client within 100 miles and quite a few are not even in this hemisphere, I am looking at going with VOIP. I am leaning towards Vonage because of some business features they have. Also when WOW goes out (as it does too often for me), I can always go to Caribou.

I would love to hear people’s experiences with various VOIP carriers. I would really like to hear from people who have or had VOIP in the last 6 months since things change quick (although all opinions are welcome). I’m also curious what Internet provider you have (I have WOW) and what speed.

Oh, and I will continue to use Skype for some of my international friends when I can…

Maybe Mr. Drucker can help.

Been with VoIP for over 3 years, here are my findings:

Vonage customer service and support IS HORRIBLE. They have some of the worst support I have ever had to deal with (I am an I.T. guy dealing with support 6-8 hours a day, so...) and their customer service is like walking into a flee market, every 30 seconds they try to sell you something else to you.

I had Comcast VoIP for 1 year. It was decent, never a problem, but the $$$ was way too much. Comcast offers a low fee at first, then jacks the price up big time, especially if you do not have cable TV.

I currently use AT & T, and it is excellent. Support is awesome (but have only had to call once, but deal with them all the time at work), the options are great, including having all voicemails forwarded to email so you know when you get a call, and tons of other cool features like do not disturb and call forwarding and the likes. We pay between $25 -28 a month and get unlimited calls.

If you lose power to your internet router, you get no calls and it will ask you to confirm your location for 911 purposes. Minor annoyance, but nothing that will kill you.

If you have a nice high speed pipe to the internets, I would suggest it.

Thanks Blue. So far AT&T is awesome. Unless I told someone, they would never know I’m on VOIP.
