I just downloaded Google Earth. First off, what an awesome program. However, is there a better one out there. I'm looking for something good enough to see a leaf on my roof. Just curious.

That's as good as it gets. And it's pretty frickin' good.

Doesn't work on Mac, though.

I downloaded it the day you required me to almost a year ago now. As I recall, the GEBB did not get nearly as excited about it as you did.

You didn't like it? You can float over your old neighbor and pretend you still live on the same street near Ruydah.

BTW, the GEBB is not as advanced as I am. Case in point, somebody just downloaded it.

Yes. You have the abilty to zoom in way closer than their old satelite technology, you can move around without reloading the image, you can flatten it out so you're looking in somebody's window...drive on the roads, etc.

Really is impressive technology.

I've got it on my other computer...too lazy to download it right now, but I don't remember it being that different.

Haven't yet downloaded said app. I'm stuck on dialup. Mad Would it have half a chance of working despite longer times to download the tiles needed for points A to B?

It wouldn't be as enjoyable. Just wait.

BTW, the Glen Ellyn mapping was about 3-4 years ago. Menards and that doughnut place were under construction during the mapping. They need to update it.

I did a survey, there were at least 1,000 less McMansions back then.

Google Earth doesn't use the tiles...you can just move around.

Aerials Express out of Tempe has a product by the name EMSView. My company uses this software to verify information. This product come in a 15 CD set covering everything from Rockford to Valpo. You can scale up and down, the closest cleanest image you can get is at 1:250. Although I must tell you that the software is expensive.

Works with dial up just fine, if you don't mind the wait for the progressive hi-res "tiles" to display, cache and store.

Absolute must to up the caching and HD storage capacity of the program. That way, the "tiles" will be available 24/7 for off-line viewing.

Very very cool program. I'm off to fly through the Grand Canyon now.

'58:

Go to some of the websites where people are talking about things on the maps. Some of the things that you can see are unbelieveable. For one, apparently, JFK Airport (or Laguardia) had a plane that skidded off of the runway several years ago and the sattelite shot was taken during that time. There are a ton of other cool things too. I spent most of Friday and Saturday nights addicted to it.

Also, Niagara Falls and the Forbidden City in China are pretty cool.
