I'm in the market to purchase sound canceling headphones. I was looking the Bose but really do not want to spend the $300. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

have you looked at the new consumer products from Shure? They use rubber or foam pieces that seal the ear bud to your ear effectively blocking outside noise.

check them out here:

shure person audio

My preference in order from best to worst is;

e5
e2
e4
e3

As you can see, the e2s are the cheapest and best bang for the buck...

Ive had about 5 pairs of noise canceling headphones over the years, my 2nd to last were a $200 pair from panasonic I bought a couple of weeks ago.
My last were a pair of Bose I bought at an airport kiosk a week ago after a side by side comparison. No Contest. I mailed my panasonics home for returning later.
The Bose are way beyond anything Ive tried before.

BTW, I frequently use mine on flights without sound so I am very sensitive to the noise cancelling properties and really dont care about sound quality.

sorry about the typos, Im using a kanji keyboard and just cant find everything.

Sony makes some a pair of earbud style for less than $100. I have them for about a year and find they're great for flying and on the riding mower. Never tried the Bose cause I can't see spending that much.

Do men actually need these??? I thought they had selective hearing to deal with sounds they did not want to hear.

I recieved a great pair of headphones for xmas, they are noise cancelling and they have a bluetooth transmitter. You plug the transmitter into the audio jack and you sync up the trasmitter and the headphones and they work wireless for up to 50 feet. I do not recall the name of the brand, alas I am at work. But I didn't even know they existed until I unwrapped them.

Just trimming down long URLs to short Titles. Don't want to make people have to scroll left-and-right now, do we?

Speaking of headphones (note how I am getting back on topic), Griffin Technologies makes iPod headphone add-ons called "EarJams" ($14.95). Anybody played with a set yet?
