Is anybody running a Mac wirelessly...iMac in particular...and if so, what kind of router are you using? Will a D-Link work with my iMac? Need to communicate with the Wii before my kid drives me crazy.

I have successfully setup my iMac to connect to both a linksys wireless router and an apple Airport. I don't see why a D-link wouldn't connect to your iMac...

Yeah...."your kid"....yeah

A little off topic I guess, but anyway,

I have been using the Apple Extreme Base Station for over four years now, never one problem. Worked with AT&T DSL (but you really do have to tweak it just a bit), works with Comcast "high-speed" internet. Even if you don't like the initial price (I think it's $180 or so today), you cannot go wrong with the long-term reliability and ease of use.

My Wintels also connect with the base station to get through to the Internet. If you wish to share a printer across your Base Station wireless network with the wintels, you download from Apple a free program called Bonjour, intall it on the wintels, and connect to the shared printer with that.

I have seen people have such problems sharing a printer after installing seemingly ANYTHING on the Windows computer that administers their (non-Apple) wireless network that they end up having to back out the shared printer and the router, and re-implement from scratch. You could end up doing that anyway I suppose should you forget the passwords you chose at intall time. Hope that doesn't happen to you!

Good luck with your network

HTH

Although Apple likes to brand everything associated with its equipment, WiFi or 802.11 a/b/g are international standards and any equipment adhering to the standards should inter operate.

Just google "WiFi".

If both devices are 802.11b/g complient it will work. It does not matter what operating system you are using as long as the hardware is installed and working properly and you using the right protocols to communicate you should be fine.

I assume the iMac is 802.11 and I know the D-Link router is. But they sure don't seem to want to work together. Even after a one-hour phone call to India.
