We are always looking to add bright young talent, but does he want to put up with the BS of getting called unfair, not caring, egomaniac and lacking of any human compassion. If he is up for that, he can send me his resume at rlr538@yahoo.com. Once he starts handling claims, he will get his act together and get into law school no problems. Why are people so bloody concerned about threadjacking? I've never understood that. And I started the thread...so, in a sense, I am the moderator.
Anyway, I am very pissed at the way this thread turned out. I make a simple statement about how astonished I am at the stupidity of a good chunk of today's youth...sort of making fun of them and their aforementioned stupidity...and you people have the gall to hijack it and turn it into a thread about teen online safety. WTF is wrong with you people? |

Wrong. The problem with threadjacking is that visitors cannot easily find and read your threadjacked opinions. The Firkin's Review thread (for example) has devolved to ... hell, I'm not sure exactly what. Certainly not anything related to its subject. If you want someone to read your thoughts, post them in the right forum and discussion thread. If there is no appropriate discussion thread, START A NEW ONE. If you don't, you're ruining the value of this board. Keep it up, and it will go away. |

That's one problem. There's also courtesy to the original thread starter. Pretty slacking in here lately.
Righto. And if Steve wanted to find additional critical review of his establishment in there, he'd be hard pressed to locate it. He's probably moved on to other things rather than bothering with it anymore since the hijackings, thanks to some of us. For new visitors, the thread length there is just daunting.
Well yeahbut doesn't this thread hijacking subject belong in its own thread instead of here?
At a forum I moderate, what goes away is the posters that don't follow the rules. Many here (won't mention anybody by username) wouldn't last a day in any of my forums. Sure, they'd get a warning - but only one. A forum is much stronger when members concentrate on the forum subject or thread purpose. That's the reason for forums - for people to find common ground, debate a subject, or to locate information. When that breaks down, or threads are peppered with useless dribble to boost personal posting counts (again, not naming any usernames), then the usefulness goes way down and becomes so much as noise. (when I think about it, a Useless Noise Forum makes a lot of sense here). I'd favor a stronger committment by the users of this forum to uphold whatever rules revision Ted comes up with, if he deems necessary. |

Hmmm... Okay...
I don't really want to ban members per se... But I understand there are many who don't understand the concept of "Topic". So let me try this for awhile: When someone hijacks a thread (AKA "discussion") by going way off-topic, I'll simply close (lock) the thread. Members will be then welcome to open a new discussion thread devoted to re-starting the old topic -- or to creating a new (and appropriately named) topic. (I know -- this will be real hard for some posters to understand. But trust me... if you think about the concept of "Topics" and "Forums," long and hard -- with luck -- you'll eventually "get it.") This is an example of such a Topic, so I'm hereby closing it. |
