I would like to offer my objection to how this message board is being abused by some individuals. If this is an independent entity and not subject to First Amendment privileges, then why are posters allowed to utilize this medium to slander public officials such as the District 41 school board and it’s superintendent. Opposition to these points of view are met with negative comments and intimidation. If this message board is for use only by those who want to condemn the efforts of our volunteer elected officials (such as the elementary school board and its president), then it should sever any association to the village. The link to the official Glen Ellyn web site indicates an endorsement by the village of the contents and the opinions of the contributors. Yet in relation to village issues and public bodies, this message board reflects nothing more than a “nothing is right in Glen Ellyn” attitude. If this is what is endorsed, then the village Trustees should step in and take a good look at what is said on here. And therefore consider stopping it’s association and links to and from the official Glen Ellyn web site.

Glen Ellyn does not have an "official" web site. I post official information here at my expense at the request of the Village.
Plese note that at the top of each message board page it says, "This is an independent venture, and is not endorsed by the Village of Glen Ellyn or any other governmental entity." In general, elected officials are fair game (but not hired staff). Many elected officials are friends of mind -- heck, I'm an elected official (Library Board) -- and I don't care for the content of many of the posts that I read. But, to a point, everyone is allowed their opinion... no matter how much it annoys you or me. And any elected official (or any other resident) has the right to respond to any comments, positive or negative. --TE =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ted Eselgroth Ted@Glen-Ellyn.com · www.Eselgroth.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

I'm sorry, but linking to official government bodies through the GLEN ELLYN HOME PAGE implies an endorsement of the contents on here.

I understand. I teach Internet stuff at COD, and it just amazes me how many people just don't "get" how the Web (and links) work.

Like Ted says on the front page it is clearly spelled out that this is an uofficial web site. As for the tone of some of the remarks well to a certain extent that goes with the territory, if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Plus if the offended parties feel so bad they are all big boys and girls and can defend themselves.

FWIW,
Below is what Glenbard District 87 considers the official Glen Ellyn link. http://www.city-data.com/city/Glen-Ellyn-Illinois.html Maybe District 41 can start their own message board on their website with only comments that agree with the board and administration allowed. |

I always thought that the appropriate response to speech one found objectionable was not to attempt to censor that speech, but to counter it with speech advocating a different point of view.

Looks to me like we have a new AE (alter ego) on the board.

The first of many interesting stats from your competition's site...Edward Hospital is 1 mile closer than Glen Oaks!
Hospitals/medical centers near Glen Ellyn: EDWARD HOSPITAL (about 3 miles; NAPERVILLE, IL) MARIANJOY REHABILITATION CENTER (about 4 miles; WHEATON, IL) GLENOAKS MEDICAL CENTER INC (about 4 miles; GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL) I must warn you that mapquest insists that Edward is 12 miles from the center of town. In case of emergency, I'd seek out something else. |

That's almost funny! I drove to Edward yesterday and it took me over 30 minutes! Based on the report of it being 3 miles from here, that means I drove 6 miles per hour! The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith. " -Bertrand Russell V. Delong |
