While I recognize that I just may be the only soul in GE with AT&T DSL service instead of comcast high speed internet, I thought I'd ask anyway.
Our DSL has been out for the better part of 4 days. Every time I would get aggravated enough to call AT&T, it would miraculously come back, only to go out again. As of last night, it is out. I tried to call AT&T from work, but the rep said they need me to be home to troubleshoot, so I will have to call again later tonight. Just wondering if this is a problem with my equipment or if many people are experiencing difficulties. |

We had similar issues with them about 5 or 6 years ago when it was still SBC. I would call constantly and explain the problem and they would give me a work around. It would work for a minute or two and then nothing. They finally agreed that I probably knew more than they did. That was the final straw. We went with WOW (we already had their cable and to add high speed internet was relatively easy) and things have been fine ever since.

mama, we have dsl and I hate it.....but it has been working, much to my delight. There cannot be a worse company to deal with than AT&T, so I feel for you...Good luck talking to support in Pakistan....They may be a little late in answering the phone, they have a little bit of an issue happening in their homeland...

Most people do hate it, but we've had really good luck - 2 years and this is our first problem with it.
I've also been noticing a sporadic, but distinct, crackling sound on our regular phone line and we've noticed a pattern. If the phone line crackles, the DSL is undoubtedly out. If the phone line sounds clear, there's a decent chance it's up and running. I presume this has something to do with the problem, but I guess I'll find out tonight. We don't really have any other economical options for internet since we have DirecTV (I also recognize that most people hate this provider as well, but for whatever reason, we've never had any trouble with them either), so I hope that this is an isolated issue. |

I have that DSL too. It's been fine. Things to try:
logout/disconnect the connection on your desktop. Reach over to router box (if you have one) and turn off and unplug all wires (sometimes turning off computer works too.). Wait about 2 minutes, replug in all wires, hit button to turn on, wait for panel of lights to make full connection, may take a minute, usually there are 3, then double click your connection manager or how ever you make a connection and try again. Should be faster too! Maybe the box is going. Try to PING your connection. If a light is off on the box, then your line or box may be shot, or at least temporarily. Check and see if power is out in the area by calling the 1800-number, if you don't already have it. Try looking at: I had them when they were Ameritech, there is an Ameritech start page as well as SBC start pages that help trouble shoot as well as check settings that should assist in connection.Ameritechstart self help SBC ATT New Computer No connection I know some of these may be old, but it may be worth a read. I know I know, you need to be connected to read this solution but if you happen to see it at work or another location, print some of the answers out. |

Grateful and I are having no problem with our connections down here. I suggest you move here and join us. Tomorrow is the beach fashion show. Hmmmmm.....

I've had DSL (AT&T) for a few years now with minimal problems. The only recent issue I had was my DSL modem died (it was 6 or 7 years old). I trouble shot it with AT&T over the phone and they came out and installed a new one.

Mama,
have been using ATT (nee SBC) DSL since I moved to GE in 2005 and hardly any issues. Surprised you said you thought you were the only one....ATT is the stalking horse if you want good DSL. I'm sure an argument will be started, but DSL is better than cable in my opinion. It sounds like you have a line issue. If you have Linebacker on your invoice, you're covered for ATT to find the issue. I do suggest you unplug everything and re-start first to see if it's something that needs re-setting. If you have a laptop, try your connection in another outlet (if your house is wired appropriately). |

Thanks everyone!
Well, I tried unplugging the router, letting it sit and then plugging it back in and low and behold the connection is back (for now? forever? who knows?). Our phone line is also clear - for now. It seems silly to call just to ask "Why hasn't this been working for four days, but it's working now?", so I'll just hope for the best. |

Our AT&T DSL & Phone service was out for 1.5 days about 2 months ago. I talked to AT&T employee and he mentioned that they upgrading their network to support U-VERSE, which is a TV DSL enabled service using your existing phone lines.

I would suggest that whenever you have a problem uplug the router. Think of it like a person. We all function better with a nap or a shower or both. “Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”—Dr. Seuss |

Bleh . . . it's out again. Luckily I have my neighbor's code for their wireless network, so as long as I am on the south side of my house, I still have internet. I'm calling in the morning to figure out what's going on.

I've also been having trouble with AT&T DSL.....probably for about 2-3 weeks now. Sometimes it connects, sometimes not. Tried the 'turn off computer and modem, wait 2 minutes' trick. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Have called AT&T four times. Each time, I got a different answer, and each time, I gave up. Waited a few hours, and all was well again until the next time.
Finally, on the fourth call, the tech rep sent me to the 'next level' of tech support. That person told me that NOTHING was wrong at their end, and it must be my computer. My computer? My beloved Mac is just fine, thank you very much. The tech gal said that in order to investigate 'my problem' further, I would have to go to the 'next level', which is a fee-based level. I strongly suggested to them that I'm already paying a fee for service, and not receiving the service--and don't feel like paying them to tell me nothing's wrong at their end. At that point, tech support ended. That was 4 days ago.....haven't had an issue with connecting since then. Go figure. |

Me too! on Saturday. I've noticed it other times, but rarely, but-- funny after you posted it, it seemed like the site crashed or something. I forgot the site message, maybe something that stated: site unavailable or forbidden. But it took about 5 minutes for that message to appear (I cued up the site and walked away to get something to eat). |
