Ted, AAUW would most likely be happy to accept them...and can give you a receipt for tax purposes. I can ask our booksale coordinator about drop off at our locker if you are interested. It's for a good cause - scholarships for women who posess one of the following qualities: 1. High Financial Need 2. Plan to study in a field that is not well represented by females. 3. Are returning to complete their Bachelor's Degree after having their studies interrupted for one reason or another. So, let me know!

Amy -- I agree that the AAUW has a delightful book sale and does wonderful things with the proceeds (I do their website). But my fiscal life is so simple that an itemize-able writeoff does me no good. Again, 1,000 or so books acquired over a century is a lot, and I'd like to get $omething out of them.

Ted, I found a site that may be of help to you? If you go to http://www.midwestbookhunters.org there is a FAQ section and a membership directory. Although, the group does not buy books, many of their members do. Good luck.

Anybody know of a store that is one of those "excess-inventory" book sellers? Everything is thrown out on tables, about half price. Used to be one over in the Finley Mall near Cheeaseburger in Paradise, and also one over in Danada near the Old Navy store. I used to find good stuff.

Just had dinner at Fox and Hounds in Bloomingdale. There's one in that strip mall. It's on Army Trail. It's the strip mall after Walmart on Schmale Rd

I'm interested in anything in the Campfire Girls or Outdoor Girls sets (published around 1920)or anything by Lowell Thomas (news reporter around 1930's), if you have them.

Ted, Have you explored Richard Owen Roberts Booksellers on Front & Washington in Wheaton? They might be interested in buying some for real money. You could donate the $ as you wish after that. They specialicize in history, psychology and religious books, but have far more than that. Mostly, they sell on the internet (ABEbooks.com and elsewhere) but have walk-in traffic. Impressive selection (well over 100,000 books). They might even have the Campfire stuff another poster was looking for. They used to have a top-notch bookbinder to repair antiquarian books, speciality bindings and boxes. Don't know if he's still there. Sometimes, nonprofit book sales don't get the money they should... no one knows which are valuable. quote: Originally posted by Ted E.: I have inherited roughly 1000 books from my mother and grandmother. They range from the late 1800's to the 1970's....Anybody have an idea as to a used book store or whatever that might have an interest?
TIA -- TE
