I'm looking for a cheap canoe. Doesn't have to be pretty since I have lots of spray paint in the garage, just has to be functional and cheap.

Thanks!

I have a friend who owns a couple. I will ask him if he's looking to unload one.
I can let you know tomorrow.

Just a bit off topic, but from wikipedia (some of these sound like good ideas) Get Joe Birkett on the line. Half the folks on the GEBB could be candidates for the Chamber of Grinding and the other half would probably be best suited for the Chamber of Tongue Ripping.

quote:
The concept of '18 levels of hell' started in the Tang Dynasty. The Buddhist text ?(間地獄經) mentioned 134 worlds of hell, but was simplified to 18 levels of hell for convenience.

See the Chinese version of the article for more information.

1. Chamber of Wind and Thunder – People who kill and commit heinous crimes out of greed are sent here for punishment.
2. Chamber of Grinding – Wealthy men who do no good and waste food are ground into powder in this chamber.
3. Chamber of Flames – People who steal, plunder, rob and cheat are sent here to be burnt.
4. Chamber of Ice – Children who ill-treat their parents and elders are sent here to be frozen in ice.
5. Chamber of Oil Cauldrons – Sex offenders such as rapists, lechers, adulterers are fried in oil in this chamber.
6. Chamber of Dismemberment by Sawing – Kidnappers and people who force good women into prostitution suffer the fate of being sawn in this chamber.
7. Chamber of Dismemberment by Chariot – Corrupt officials and landlords who oppress and exploit the people are dismembered by a chariot in this chamber.
8. Chamber of Mountain of Knives – People who cheat customers by earning more than they should, profiteers who jack up prices and cheat on the quality of goods are made to shed blood by climbing the mountain of knives.
9. Chamber of Tongue Ripping – Gossips who stir trouble and liars suffer the fate of having their tongues ripped out in this chamber.
10. Chamber of Pounding – Cold-blooded murderers are pounded in this chamber.
11. Chamber of Torso-severing – Scheming and ungrateful men have their torsos severed in this chamber.
12. Chamber of Scales – Crooks who oppress the innocent, people who cheat on the quality of goods and daughters-in-law who ill-treat their in-laws have hooks pierced into their body and hung upside down.
13. Chamber of Eye-gouging – Peeping toms who go around peeking and leering have their eyeballs gouged out in this chamber.
14. Chamber of Heart-digging – People with evil hearts have theirs dug out in this chamber.
15. Chamber of Disembowelment – Instigators, hypocrites and tomb-robbers have their bowels dug out in this chamber.
16. Chamber of Blood – Blasphemous crooks who show no respect to the gods suffer the fate of being skinned in this chamber.
17. Chamber of Maggots – Crooks who use loopholes in the law to cheat and engage in malpractice are being eaten alive by maggots in this chamber.
18. Chamber of Avici – Crooks who have committed heinous crimes, brought misery to the people and betrayed the ruler are placed on a platform above an inferno. The unlucky ones fall off the platform into the inferno and burn while the lucky ones remain on the platform. These spirits are never to be reincarnated.

It was either that, or try to move it with my pickup truck. The Jeep actually worked out great.

Are those come-alongs, Tony?

For those interested in the most comfortable canoe yoke I've ever used, see Spring Creek Outfitters at this page. It's the first entry, the seat/yoke. It flips to low profile to use as a seat and is used as pictured to use as a yoke. Takes about 5 seconds to make the switch (uses a spring-loaded pin type fastener) between seat and yoke and is way way way more comfortable during portaging than any other yoke I've ever seen.

Spring creek also has a cool gadget for tying down the front end of your canoe/kayak during transport. They make a little loop of strapping with a grommet on one end and it has a short piece of rubberish tubing along the strap. What you do is mount the strap using the grommet as a washer inside your enginer compartment using one of the body bolts that line the perimeter of where the lip of your hood lands. So the straps stay mounted in your engine at all times. When its time to tie down, you hang the straps out and almost close your hood. Then you bring the rubberish tubing right up on the hood and press the hood closed. You then tie the front end of the canoe to the strapping. The benefit here is that there is not rope or strap that is constantly rubbing against the hood of your car, as there would be if you tied down to the bumpter. No paint/clearcoat loss. they look like this only with a rubber tubing along the strap that isn't pictured. I'd call to make sure it still comes with it.

Ratchet straps. It's what I had at the time. If we do a lot of transporting I'll probably come up with something better, but really, we aren't going too far from home... Fox River is only 4 blocks away. Big Grin

Good luck with your IL registration. I've been denied a permit because I didn't submit the MN title along with my paperwork. Now, for a $13 sticker on my boat, I have to contact MN DNR to try and get an old title on a boat I bought used there 6 years ago and the MN registration ran out in 04. Stupid me for not re-upping in MN, which is cheaper than IL. But I thought it'd be the "right thing" to do it in my state of residence. How much of that $13 will make it to conservation causes do you think?

From what I can tell online, I shouldn't need numbers... from what I am reading a canoe only needs to be registered if being used as a rental?

He could use the Lower Level of your Estate.

Not sure, although in the past the Jeep has tried to pretend it's a canoe... or maybe a submarine....

You will need to be register. Whether you need to display numbers or just a decal, I'm not sure. See This link. Column 2 of the first page.
