I have inherited a pistol that belonged to my great grandfather. I do not believe it has any historical signifigance (i.e WW I or II, Luger, etc). I will post a picture of it later this evening. If anyone can tell me anything about it or its worth, if any, I would appreciate it. If there is a good source to go and take this to get it appraised or information, that would also be helpful.
I also received an AR-17 that dissassembles into the plastic stock. I believe it is a .22. If anyone is interested in buying this, let me know or make an offer.
Lastly, do I have to have a FOID card just to store them in my house or sell either of these? I know nothing in this arena. Thanks for any help.
I have a resource book that I can probably place the make/model and approximate price value. I can try to get you an online source too if I can.
As for storing/getting rid of, I'm unsure of the consequences of... maybe the attorneys here can help or just go online to Illinois State Police and view FAQ or e-mail them. Getting a FOID card isn't a bad idea. Doesn't hurt to have one.
Here are two photos of the pistol (My apologies to BE for the quality of the shots). There is a "Hawkinson & Remington, Worchester, MA" stamped on the top of the barrel.
Thanks again Lupe for all your info. actually, for a non gun enthusiast, it has been interesting and a little fun doing this research. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
Note to self: Come election day, if the candidate named in Herbold's yard doesn't win but the candidate named in my yard does, get bullet-proof windows...

Note to Amy: I am a peaceful, thoughtful neighbor who only shoots at speeding motorists and parkway garbage throwers. Also, the current signs have been electrified to thwart would be Democratic thieves.
Yeah, but how about that strobe light a few houses away???? Annoying.

yeah... I wouldn't envy being right across the street from that. My dog has "accidently" peed on their tombstones a few times...kinda makes me smile inside.
I'm pretty sure you need a FOID card to possess the guns. I think in theory you should not have been given the guns w/o a FOID card (i.e. the estate committed a violation).
Completely lay-person opinion, it's probably best to get the FOID card before you attempt a sale.

Let's see...a guy who uses his own name when he posts and admits he owns a firearm, admits he does not possess a FOID card and (I now know for an absolute fact) Mr. Norton reads this board. Maybe you'll have a roommate this weekend Rob...How do you look in orange?
I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac. I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog.
Thanks for the concern Fish - I inherited them. I am not in possession of them. My sister, who has an active FOID card, and is an ex GH police officer has them in her gun safe at her house. Sorry chief, orange is not my color.
