Possible Hostage Situation In Wheaton

"WHEATON, Ill. (WBBM) -- There's police activity this hour in Wheaton.

Details are sketchy, but the FBI and eyewitnesses tell Newsradio 780 that the Wheaton Bank and Trust building is surrounded.

The building is located at 211 South Wheaton Avenue. Several people are walking out of the four-story building with their hands in the air. According to reports, witnesses say that this was not a bank robbery.

Newsradio 780 has a reporter en route to the scene."

Doesn't sound like it...

"The FBI told CLTV that it is not a bank robbery or an attempted robbery, but there is an incident.

Simpson and others at the scene said that police responded to a traffic incident involving the man outside the bank when the man grabbed the officer's gun and ran into the bank.

The man said that three to four bank employees were escorted out the back of the bank about 3 p.m., but it's not clear who led them out.

Police have stopped train traffic around the area. Metra officials confirmed to CLTV that two trains are stopped, one inbound and one outbound."

WMAQ

"WHEATON, Ill. -- Police are on the scene of a hostage situation at a building that houses a bank in Wheaton.

The four-story building, which houses the Wheaton Bank and Trust Company, at 211 S Wheaton Ave., is currently under heavy police guard. [MAP]

The FBI has confirmed with NBC5 news that the situation is not involved with a bank robbery. There are no reports of any injuries.

The police activity is impacting Metra's Union Pacific West Line train. Trains operating inbound and outbound are stopped in the area.

Dozens of people under police guard could be seen running from the building and down an alley adjacent to the building just before 3 p.m. Friday after being held for about 45 minutes."

Both trains coming and going are are at a standstill. I wonder where they are stopped? I hope it's cool in those cars.

Thought it...but didn't say it. I thought I'd get in trouble for making a joke mid-crisis.

from the Daily Herald..."There's a huge crowd gathering to watch all of this," said Stephanie Bingham, a clerk at Running Ambitions, which is across the train tracks from the bank. "I guess people find it interesting because nothing ever happens in Wheaton."...

Clam, since you are stuck downtown, can you go across from your office and take Mrs. IMJ to dinner?

Three cheers for my opposing counsel who noticed up an emergency motion in Skokie this morning making me have to drive in to work.

And here I was grumbling about having to put on a suit on a Friday . . .

On a less selfish side, I hope everyone is OK.
