Recently, someone told me he missed Nika's discussion starters. Well, I'm no Nika. However, I was in the the Montclair train parking lot tonight talking to someone when a teenage girl and her friends came driving through way too fast and I yelled "slow down, criminy!" A few minutes later I realized I had, officially, turned into my father.

So, my question for all of you is: When did you realize you had turned into your mother or father?

Come on, don't be shy, we all know that it is enivitable. No matter how much we have sworn to our Savior that we won't become our parents, at some point we do. So, I am curious, who wants to share that moment with the rest of us?????

I really liked Nika's threads better! Joke, Blond Jokes . . . . .ect.

I believe it happened just after the passing of my Father and with the birth of GEM1. (This all happened within 30 days of each other.) Seems like one day you just get thrown in the deep end and it's either sink or swim. The lessons of life that were drilled into you while "you knew it all" and didn't pay attention suddenly make sense, have a reason and a purpose. Then as time passes you find yourself telling your kids things that you ignored in your youth. Or you get that "flashback" of your parent telling you the same thing you are now drilling into your own kids. . . . . Kinda weird!

Uggg I am nothing like my parents. Oh, well I might see slight similarities at times. Perhaps I have been asked to rub a child's back at night and done a quick 5 seconds and been asked why it was so short and suddenly remembered my mom used to do that and ohhh she must have been tired, that is why she always stopped so fast. I also notice that the whole "we are going to leave this restaurant if you don't stop that" is the biggest crock of.... never done it. Thanks for the memories Akin...

I have not become my parents yet. I don't threaten my children on public bulletin boards.

Of course it is. It isn't owned by the public, but it's certainly open to the public. —Ted E.

I haven't so much turned into my Mom just have many of her traits.

It was just last week, when I told my stepdaughter that I was going to give her my Mom's driving in the snow speech. She just moved up to Northern Wisconsin.

That's hilarious....I had no idea that Perplexed is Scotty's child, lol.

I believe I first noticed it when I was about 23 and my oldest was about 6....she began to adopt an attitude problem and I suddenly started talking to her about how inappropriate it was....and pictured my mother telling me the same thing. This was promptly followed by a brief (mid-life??) crises and mental breakdown. I've since learned to deal with being my mother as one of life's inevitabilities.

When the doctor told me "meet your son", and a few months later, I was facing one of the toughest decisions I've ever made: Leave my home base of North Carolina for Chicago to survive the recession financially, alone as a new small family. Or stay in NC, have the extended family support base around, but lose the significant career momentum I had spent years building up and risk the financial foundation we stand upon. By the time I was 16 years old, I had lived in (in order) Jacksonville, Fl., Lafayette, In., Oklahoma City, Miami, Birmingham, & KC. At 21, I added Wilmington, NC on my own, back to Birmingham at 27, back to Wilmington at 28, up to Raleigh at 29, and Glen Ellyn at 35. Hoping next is the western burbs of DC next year. If that happens, I'll be in a place that will offer me several different career options that will allow us to put down some roots and get busy raising our expanding family (and have our home withing a 3 hour drive).

Moving here was the right decision, as I am the only one in my little social circle of life that hasn't had the wolf knock on his door.

I became my dad when God put the soul of an innocent life in my hands to guide through this messy and dangerous world.

I notice I'm my dad when my instincts have me carrying my sunglasses in my mouth, like a pipe. My dad has smoked a pipe since his early 20's, he's called "PaPa Pipes", and I find myself chewing on the end of my glasses like he chews on the end of his pipe to concentrate.
