Please retire. What a sad display and one his people should have prevented. I admire his courage in recovering from a stroke, but dude your just not there. I just felt so bad for him. Janet Davies-Please hand over the reigns for NYE to someone younger and easier on the eyes. "Everyone thinks their opinion matters. Don't argue with a nobody. It was painful to watch. I had to walk out of the room so that it would not destroy my memory of him. What were they thinking?

i didn't see dick, but janet davies had on the UGLIEST dress i've ever seen, even in the 70's. it was a dark gold lame, right out of "dallas"-can't imagine what she was thinking...but i like her. oh well!

Her arms did not look worthy of any sleeveless garment. Poor thing.

Giangreco did the smartest thing possible by staying home. His stock rose because that broadcast was laughable. Between Lou Canellis grabbing some chick and kissing her like it was his grandma. I don't think that girl wanted to kiss him, that was my impression as her grabbed her and said, come here and kiss me....Nice job Lou, you perv...... Dick Clark, should be on the dead thread, that was the worst...Let Seacrest take over, not that he is great, but at least he is watchable... Fan, saw you sitting at the mac at about 11 driving home from B'dale.....that mac is bright, you should have went with the 20...

I remarked to Mrs. Yoss that Giangreco knew a train wreck when he saw one and bowed out-Good call Mark. I'm sure Janet Davies is probably a nice person, but that dress was not flattering to her "figure". And Janet's cheerleader act was really grating, made me wish for another appearance from a Mazda mini-van. I agree that the parties they were covering seemed really lame, must have been some budget cuts at ABC-7. "Everyone thinks their opinion matters. Don't argue with a nobody. Oy - totally agree about everything expressed here! Poor Dick Clark - I admire his perseverance, but unfortunately now, our memories of him will be as he was last night, instead of how he was in his prime. When you work in the entertainment industry, sometimes you just have to bow out when physically, you're no longer able to do your job. And I got whiplash from the Channel 7 coverage, and while I don't necessarily hate Janet Davies, she needs to learn to dress her age. I hate the idea that as a woman ages she's no longer considered "easy on the eyes" - that's kind of offensive, actually. But I do agree that Ms. Davies hasn't learned how to age gracefully. She's a beautiful woman, if she didn't insist on dressing like a 1950's teen queen. Finally, how sad is it that so many of us were at home last night watching TV?? Oh, well - I've never been one for the whole New Year's Eve hype. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever been to a New Year's Eve party.

I think that if Janet Davies would have chosen a dress that was not shiny/metallic, it would have been much better. The kids kept saying that Chicago's New Year's stuff was lame. With all the well-known entertainers from Chicago, you'd think we could put something together! A little appearance by Dick Clark would have been nice and enough.

Yoss, Can you send me an email address for someone at UAL? I want to voice a concern about my flight as well as show support for a pilot. Anyone you would suggest? What part of "no" don't you understand?

I have a friend who reports directly to Graham Atkinson-Executive VP of Customer Experience. Send your e-mail to me (tom.n@sbcglobal.net) and I'll forward it to his attention. He's good about routing complaints to the right people. I've been complaining to him a lot lately regarding the filthy condition of the United Express aircraft. yeah, it was lame...channel 7 reporting from the willowbrook ball room...i expected them to be interviewing lawrence welk! and as for being home...hard to go out when you need to wait up for teens out late....and you need your sleep! but i sure felt better this morning than on many other new year's eves! happy new year!

The DTM clan was also lame and stayed at home. I am amazed at the number of firecrackers going off. Who has the will power to save these from July 4th? Also, a special shout out to the kids in my neighborhood that played ding-dong ditch on us. Making my dog go ballistic at midnight is a guarantee that our 1 1/2 year old will wake up...thanks. It's the spending, Stupid!

Did you step on the flaming bag we left? What part of "no" don't you understand?

Janet's age has zero to do with it. Look, I am younger than Janet Davies, and I am a man. . .but there is a reason I don't traipse around the neighborhood with my shirt off. And if you lived in my neighborhood, you would appreciate my discretion.

| GlenEllynite |
I agree - but I was referring to Yoss's comment above that singled out her age, not her inability to dress herself.
|
| GlenEllynite |
Oh. Yoss can be offensive at times.

I apologize if my comment seems insensitive to mature women, my objection is limited to Janet Davies who IMO seems unwilling to act her age-i.e. dress to compliment her features, stop acting like a 20 something cheerleader. TV and film is a brutal industry where unfortunatley women are judged more harshly than men as they age. I thought the way NBC handled the smart & talented Jane Paulie was pure stupidity and seeing Meridith Viera on the Today show gives me faith that someone learned a lesson. But here we are in Chicago and Dianne Burns who is dumb as a box of rocks is making millions because she is easy on the eyes, not because of her journalistic credentials. To clarify, my comment was directed at one person, who right or wrong, works in an industry where looks are important. It was not intended as an overall judgement of women over 40. "Everyone thinks their opinion matters. Don't argue with a nobody. A farmer doesn't bother telling a pig his breath smells like s***."

women over 40 should not drag out their "dallas" shoulder pads in the third largest market in america on NYE!!!! well, janet davies started my year off right...i know i have more fashion sense than someone on TV! oh well. if this is the most annoying thing i have to deal with this year, it will be a GREAT year!
|
| GlenEllynite |
Thanks for the clarification, Yoss! But I do think Janet Davies has the looks for this television market; I think she's a striking, mature woman. If only she'd dress like one. I read a comment recently about that horrible Bravo Series called "Real Housewives of Orange County," which said something to the effect that if mature women could only see how ugly they are when they act - and dress - like teenagers. So true. But society shoulders a big part of the blame in the way we seem to worship the cult of youth, particularly with regard to females.

don't get me wrong, i like janet davies(and i'm always glad to see LOTS of women over 40 doing well on tv.) but...this was a case of a very bad dress on an attractive woman..she needs to tune into "what not to wear!" calling stacy london!!!
