I doubt anyone is schocked, but let me pose this question to the gay community.
In the music industry, being gay does not seem to frowned upon like it once was, take Elton John or Michael Stipes for examples. Does it bother you that Clay chose to hide his sexual preference until his "career" went on the wane? I would think at the height of his popularity he could have used his fame to help the gay community. Instead this appears to be a last grab at his extending his 15 minutes.
I'm not gay but given my knowledge and understanding of the pain that gay young people often experience in feeling judged and, unfortunately, damned by some folks, coming out is pretty tough. Remember Clay Aiken was just an average young man from a relatively traditional background who found himself in the entertainment world fairly recently. I'm sure old feelings and upbringing don't go away quickly just because a person moves into a more "accepting" environment.
