HI,
Has anyone dealt with ING Direct? If so, what do you think? They are sending us a lot of advertising lately. Supposedly they offer better rates than most banks. But I am skeptical because well, at this point I don't trust in the stability of any financial institution. (Except a good, safe hiding place, and a large empty coffee can.) LOL

For those of us who wish to put aside some funds until the market stabilizes, what say you as to ING Direct or perhaps another financial institution that you've dealt with. Care to recommend? I promise I won't blame you if they have an elaborate golf outing and then go belly up the next day.

I have had some funds in ING for a few years. The interest rate is a little better than what CitiGold accounts earn (which is tiny these days), and requires much less of a minimum balance. However, what I've read about their stability lately is a concern, and I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to write myself one last check and place it somewhere else.

That said, they've also totally screwed up with a couple annuity 1099's for the last year. That investigation has cost us many many hours of being on hold with numerous departments; and we still aren't sure if the second set of 1099's are correct. Not a well run company if you ask me. I haven't ever thought of them as a long term financial partner.

i think US Bank is in very good shape (they're my mortgage lender, and there is no word/threats against my significant HE line of credit. i think they are pretty solvent, and didnt make any junk housing loans.

I really did love the gigantic banner that they had in the bank for months and moths. It showed the picture of a cute little house with a huge spigot coming out of the side imploring the owners to tap into their home equity. Would have been better if the house had an ATM on the front porch.
