Enough is enough.

Too many thoughtful, intelligent and articulate GEBBers have left this board because of the hateful and otherwise inappropriate postings of a few.

I have tried to be reasonably open-minded in what I allow, but I fear I have been too tolerant of those who choose to ignore The Rules.

The Terms of Service of this board state, in part:
quote:
You agree ... that you will not post any material which is ... defamatory ... abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing ... threatening, invasive of a person's privacy...
Several posters have stepped far over this line on too many occasions. Kindly knock it off.

Furthermore:
quote:
Unacceptable content includes ... posts which attack or otherwise demean individuals and organizations, whether public or private.

Regarding political, governmental and similar matters, discussing policies and procedures is always preferable to focusing on personalities ... but please keep your posts civil. Negative comments about hired staff and other public or private employees, whether identified by name or description, are generally unacceptable.
Most important:
quote:
We reserve the right to edit or delete any message for any or no reason whatsoever.
Unfortunately, it appears that I must devote more time to this responsibility.

Your thoughts and opinions on policies and procedures are solicited. Simply linking to the ideas of others, or copying-and-pasting someone else’s thoughts, is frowned upon.

I encourage you all to accept the fact that posting your partisan point-of-view here will not change the opinion of those with an opposing point-of-view. And calling those people offensive names or otherwise attempting to degrade them will not only fail to convince them of the merits of your argument, it will usually turn those on the fence against you and your ideas.

Accept the fact that no matter how intelligent, well-read and informed you may be, there will always be others who are equally intelligent, well-read and informed that will always disagree with you.

Learn to deal with the message, not the messenger.

When stating your position, remember that repetition is annoying. Make your point. Let the other side make theirs. A disinterested third party can read both and elect to go with the one that makes the most sense. Repeating and repeating and repeating the same “facts” LOUDER and LOUDER does not help your cause. Quality always trumps quantity.

It’s time to close this thread; 140 pages is probably enough. A new “Hijack This Thread” topic begins below.

Play nice. —Ted E.

Time to sell your Birkenstocks and Whole Foods hemp grocery bags??

quote:
Researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine said consumers were paying higher prices for organic food because of its perceived health benefits, creating a global organic market worth an estimated $48 billion in 2007.

A systematic review of 162 scientific papers published in the scientific literature over the last 50 years, however, found there was no significant difference.

At least you could have let me start the new one. I will never be the top poster/thread starter (who can compete), but I did start the hijack thread. Now it’s gone, I feel I have no purpose.

I'm going to go cry now.

Perplexed, surely you can start a "hijacking in G.E. 3.0". We would all be happy to post on your thread only not that dumb II one. (Sorry Ted, sir)

You'd probably get better responses if you deleted your message and re-posted it in the “ Cats, Dogs, All Creatures Great And Small... ” forum. —Ted E.

I believe that's Worth you're talking about, not Alsip.

Post of the year Ted. Thank you for starting to clean this place up. Glen Ellyn will be a better place for it, at least internet wise.

Bravo Mr. Admin.

Which is worse - expecting nothing less or expecting nothing more?

Nothing less seems good - ex. Ferrari owners expect nothing less than the best.

Nothing more seems more like an expression of disappointment or low standards - ex. I expect nothing more out of a 13 year old.

It's like the "I couldn't care less" v. "I could care less." I personally prefer "I couldn't care less" as caring the least makes more sense as the bigger insult.

Ferrari's and Lamborghini's, etc. are really poor quality automobiles if you judge them by dependability. But you usually get a free mini vacation the first few years to get them up to snuff. They are investments, being works of art- much hand fabricated.
Not sure if that's expecting nothing more or nothing less.
Wah!
What they hey are we talking about?

Which weather is better, partly sunny or partly cloudy? "Partly", seems like less than half, to me, so less than half cloudy is better than less than half sunny but having sunny in the description makes that sound better.

I said what I meant and I meant what I said...

I was remarking on consistency, so I expected nothing less. If I was remarking on content then, yes, I could have said that I expected nothing more...

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

No sir, that would be me commenting on the same exact post that ended the Power Outage thread under the Village Government Forum. I could not comment in that thread because it is closed, so I commented here where it was posted again. That is all. But thanks for proving my point.

Is the above quote a personal attack? Is that against the board's TOS?
