I know Cuban has the money but I thought it was a class act to bring the girls to a game. I can't wait to se what Oprah is going to do to one up him. Blago's media people should jump on this. He can add this to his list of things he compares himself to. He knows how prosecuted, oops persecuted these girls felt.
This is an example of sensationalized journalism. They throw in that the school is known for their work with Special Needs students so that everyone will think these high school girls just whomped the special needs team. None of the girls on the team were special needs! They were district rivals, the one team was just the better team.
Now, I am not saying that 100-0 is not a painful score, but don't misconstrue the article to make these girls sound like the devil!
In hindsight, the reaction was wrong. The firing of the coach was wrong...though he should have used a little common sense. The fact that the losing team couldn't score a point is definitely wrong. I would bet dollars to pizzas that I could field a group of guys from G.E. that had very little ballin' skills and we could score a basket against the Celtics in a regulation game. I think the wrong coach was fired.

From an article I read, the game couldn't help but be scheduled. They were in the same sports conference or district. Also, looking further into it, the article said that the State Contender team was 2-9 four years prior and built up the team. Also it said that 3 or so years ago, the winning team was beat 82-6.
This game never should have gotten national coverage, honestly. Its a small high school league with a large scoring gap. I'm guessing this happens all the time.
The schools are in the private and parochial school conference. It's a bad team, from a school which has 141 students. But, I am tired of hearing that the coach of the winning team was right in this matter.
The fans and players were cheering to get to 100. They scored 12 more points when they were up by 88! What does a coach do in that matter? Well, he defended himself by showing that they scored less each quarter.
Perhaps he talks to the ref about playing 5 on 4. Perhaps he tells his girls to do passing drills instead of scoring. Perhaps he institutes a game plan that says that every girl must touch the ball twice before a shot is taken. There are myriad ways around "running it up".

I agree with Ronkas. This was a good opportunity to teach these young minds about sportsmanship and compassion. They were never going to lose, they could have at least tried to not embarass the other team.
My main point was that this should never have been sensationalized the way it was.
Still doesn't excuse the fact that that one team sucked. I will bet that I could beat them all....just me....like a modern-day Ditka. A full-size Ditka, not the mini one.
Either way, both teams will have awesome memories to speak of in the future. And isn't that what is important?

On the bright side, they all now have an excellent experience upon which they can reflect and then utilize in writing a compelling college application essay.
